I have a telephone reording in wav format. There are two main people talking and there are people talking in the background. I need to be able to understand what the people are saying in the background. What software, if any, can do this for me. I have an old version of COOLEDIT, but I can't seem to get any results.

Thanks,

Mike

Try using a compressor. In cool edit you'll find it in Effects->Amplitude-> Dynamics Processing->vocal compressor.
It'll help raising the level of the soft parts and lowering that of the strong ones.

I am in law enforcement and trying to analyze a 911 call. If you are able to help me and need to verify this, send me a private message and I'll give you my work phone #.
