NEW DELHI: Those pesky calls may finally dry up. Reacting to a common complaint of millions, the Supreme Court on Thursday maintained that the year-old 'National Do-Not-Call Registry (NDNCR) has just not worked as telemarketers have continued to breach the citizen's right to privacy, and suggested that NDNRC should be replaced by a 'call registry' — that is, those wishing to receive telemarketers' calls should register themselves for the purpose.

^^Thats right. The NDNC registry isn't stopping those damn telemarketing calls. So they now want to introduce the National Do Call registry. So telemarketers will have to call numbers which are there in the National Do Call registry.

Earlier, you had to send Do Not Disturb to stop those calls but it never worked

now, once do-call register is enabled, you have to register your phone number to get calls from those ****ing telemarketing companies which means that by default, you will not get any call from those stupid people.

@desii-Thanks for that. Why would anyone want to register to talk to them? This also translates to lesser jobs in call centers :-|

to the best of my knowledge this do-call registry doesnt exist anywhere in the world.
common sense suggests that, this move by SC is like asking "outbound" (not outbound recovery/claims) call centers to shut down.

but smart companies can come out with interesting plans.
like, come up with plans saying people who register in the do-call register and are called by their marketing agents will get a free-lifetime credit cards/ or higher credit limit.
mobile fone companies coming up with cheaper plans.
and blah blah blah........
this way smart marketing gurus can create a win-win for both parties.

do call or do not call
All BS
The supreme court should direct the govt. to have a forum and website where we can register a complaint against the telemarketer who calls. Obviously many people will receive calls from the same number, which can be traced, blacklisted, and the owner prosecuted.
