Hi

I want to upgrade my system to Amd 64.I want to buy the following components in about a month for maxed 30k.
Amd 64 cpu
Amd 64 mb
512mb*2 ddr 400 kingston memory = 7.2k
400watts powersupply+dvd drive =2.8k

So,I am left with about 18-21k for cpu + mb.

I am thinking about Amd 3400 754(11800) newcastle + Asus k8n(5.6k) =17.4k

I would like to know the cost of socket 939 and their performance increase:
Amd 3000 939 winchester/newcastle
Amd 3200 939 winchester/newcastle
Amd 3400/3500 939 winchester/newcastle

I also want to know the price of cheapest 939 mb and also the cost of cheap but decent performers without onboard agp as I have radeon 9800pro 128mb.
I want to know the price of Asus A8V non-delux and the cost of cheapest nfroce 3 mobo.

I live in New Delhi and plan to buy from SMC International in Nehru Place.

I am not much interested in winchester as they are more expensive and don't perfrom as well except for amd 3500.
I'm also not much considering the amd 3200 939 as I want main power for gaming and amd 3400 754 is better than the former.

I have no upgradebility problem as I won't be upgrading till 2006 end and then I will buy a new system.

So what I want is just better performance for today's games.

I quite didtnt get this. What do you meant by they perform well. All socket 939 CPU's performs equal if not better to thier Socket 754 counterparts. If you are talking about a FPS here and there than it doesnt matter. The main aim behind buying a socket 939 would be cooler solution which is easy to overclock and to get support for PCI Express. Not to forget future upgradability.

I don't want pci-e and am also not very keen to oc it atleast not right now.
It's not worth buying a more expensive 939,say 10% more expensive and performing 5-7% less.

Well... I dont know about your claim that 939s dont perform as well! Thats a new one. But they ARE more expensive than a 754.

My advice - get a A64 2800+ (or 3000+ if ur feeling rich) and get an Asus K8N or K8V (they're both the same, pretty much... and since u dont intend OCing, no difference at all!)

I recently upgraded to an A64 2800+ with the Asus K8N. Its running pretty well except for some initial IDE issues (a word of advice: DO NOT INSTALL THE IDE DRIVERS PROVIDED BY NVIDIA!!! WINDOWS DRIVERS GOOD, NVIDIA DRIVERS BAD!!)

i installed a 2800+ a64 , sold my old xp 2800+ barton , but apart from an increase in the memory bandwidth , nothing has changed , well , i guess i have to wait for the 64bit xp to come out next month :)

Go for a s939 with a x16 PCIE slot as it is more future proof nd U can always plugin a powerful Gcard at lower costs.
Bout perfomance a 939 3200 is far better than 754 3400!

I HAVE A RADEON 9800PRO Agp 8x

You may check any benchmarks , see for yourself as far as real world gaming is concerned

Amd 3500newcastle(n) sometimes gets higher score than amd 3400 clawhammer and somethimes lower as well, about the same with maybe 3500 being a bit better.
3500 w>3500n

3200n(754 and 939)>3200w
3000n(939,most probably )>3000 w
3400c>3200 all
