RTX 2060 Super or RTX 2070 Super for mid/high 4K gaming?

Hi Guys,

I'm finalizing my PC part list and wanted to know which one can last 4-5 years for decent 4K gaming on mid/high settings.

Also suggest any decent PSU and 4K gaming monitor for the same.

Thanks,
Vikas

Please post the parts you are considering, maybe it has some scope for improvement.

RTX 2060S is not considered a good value in general, it is like 10% better than RTX 2060 which costs 25k, while 2060S costs like 32k at least. I have seen 2070S for as low as 40k, but 42k is the general low price. It is appreciably more powerful, so people considering 2060S just end up spending the extra money. Sometimes you can find RTX 2070 for 32k or so, that is a better deal than 2060S. After 3 years or so, even 2070S might not be good for 1440p gaming.

Both of them aren't great for 4K gaming, only RTX 2080Ti is. Surely you can play a 4K medium to get higher fps, but most gamers prefer 1440p 144Hz instead of 4K 60Hz & that would be my recommendation as well, unless you plan to use the 4K monitor for some colour accurate work as well, like professional photo editing or video editing. With 1440 144Hz, you can enjoy the benefit of 144Hz in competitive titles like CoD, BF, R6, etc.

For 1440p 144Hz, get Acer VG271U (27" IPS) or LG 32GK650F (32" VA panel), both goes on "sale" for 25k.

For 4K 60Hz, LG 27UK650 has been on sale for 30k.

Corsair TX650M at 7.5k is a great PSU for the price, go for it eyes closed, better Gold rated PSU than other competitors at that price.

Thank you guys for the reply.

I'm really not looking for 4K 144mhz gaming or 144Mhz gaming at all. I'm satisfied with 4K 60Mhz as the build will be used for photo and video editing as well.

I'm considering below:
CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 3600
MB: Anything good and compatible as I don't plan to overclock.
RAM: 16GB DDR4
GPU: 2060S or 2070S
PSU: As you said above TX650

Will this be enough for 4-5 yrs down the line.

Thanks,
Vikas

^ As evident by charts posted above, a 2070S barely gets 61 FPS at 4K and these averages might include older games. There are no monitors in MHz range yet. Common refresh rate values are 240, 144, 120 and 60 Hz with some sort of variable refresh tech like freesync.
As next gen consoles are pushing for hardware raytracing and higher refresh rates, you shouldn't expect 1st gen RTX cards to suffice for more than 3 years.

Then it would be better to wait some more which won't hurt before making a decision. Thanks.
If new GPUs are launched by year end, good, but coronavirus did impact a lot of stuff. If you can wait, I'd recommend waiting till year end to see how new GPUs & Ryzen 4000 are.

If you are into photo & video editing, then 4K monitor makes sense. R5 3600 + RTX 2070S will surely suffice. AsRock B450 Pro4 & Asus TUF B450M are good cheap motherboards.

You can play not so intensive games at 4K, play the rest at 1440p (lower resolution). Do get a freesync monitor & use G-sync with a DP.
