repair xp widout reinstalling

can i repair win xp pro widout reinstalling it?

if so, can u plz tell me how, cause when i insert xp's installation cd it dosen't display any option for repairing.

also recently ALL my vids (avi, dat, etc.........all except those which run on qiucktime) are appearing cropped and enlarged. there is no such problem with audio files. i even reinstalled all the codecs (divx, divx mpeg4, xvid, mpeg layer3, etc..) and media players(WM10, winamp, vlc, io media player, etc..) but d problem still remains.

HELP!!!

u need to uninstall and reinstall the codecs..
not just install over

apart from the fact that u can reinstall xp without loosing any data !
so if u wish to know i'll ellaborate accordingly

hey why repair u can directly reinstall it with out any fear of data loss

mmm its fairly simple yaar
follow the exact same steps u do to install xp
when it asks for folder choose the exisintg one
like if ur windows is isntalled in rootdrv:\windows
choose the same
it'll ask for 2 confirmations whether u wanan delete and reinstall
choose yes.
it'll ask u to for formatting / file format ..
choose "keep existing format"
and continue the installation
thats it .. u have a new XP
and all ur data is safe on the disk
ull ofcourse need to reinstall updates and programs

btw : with this method u'll need to backup the following :

1) my documents
2) favourties
3) fonts
and anything in the windows directory/ documents and settings directory u might have
