I had Windows xp on my computer, Recently I had formated my hdd and tried to Install Winxp Pro but it doesnt installed! It says system cannot find some files in the Cd. I got original CD and I had installed windows Xp from this Cd earlier on my computer. Then I tried to Install Mandrake 10.1 { provided by digit, Feb2005 issue} but installer says CDs are corrupted. Fedora core 4 also encountered this same problem. Then I tried to run Knoppix live cd but it hangs when it tries to search for USB port. After disabling USB cnntroler from BIOS the Live cd runs properly.
My sys config is
P-4, GA-8VM533 P M/B, 512 ram, XFX Geforce 5200, 40 GB hdd,
Plz me to troubleshoot this problem.

Thanks

Actually some of my friends told me that this problem may happen due to defective ram module. Is that true????????

there is an option to do memtest in all the linux distros
so do tht

if tht comes out clean then the cd drive is the culprit !!!

I think my cd drives are ok. I have Asus cd writer and samsung dvd rom. I have tried both of them but it was all same.
Also I've 2 module of 256 mb ram I've tried both, Also i brought my friends ram but I doesnt install.
Also my current OS( Xandros open circulation) doesnt work properly when USB controllers were enabled.
I had installed Xandros earlier in my sys. but I havent faced such problem.
