refresh rate during games!

Hey guys, this is my first post. Anyways, while playing games such as ut, ut2003, ut2004, tony hawk's 3 and 4, hitman and serious sam,...etc. the refresh rate is 85 hz at 800*600 or 1024*768, as set on my desktop. But in games like q3a, counter-strike, hl, gta3, the refresh rate becomes 60 hz. this causes a lot of strain on my eyes . refresh rate remains 60 on all resolutions, even though my desktop settings are 1024*768 at 85 hz and 32-bit. v-sync off or on, it doesnt change. how do i make it 85 hz? i check it in games through monitor's osd.

Welcome to the Forum....
Some 'old' DirectX games doesnt get the current refresh rate and they choose it as 60Hz.
For DirectX games, follow these steps:-
1]Go to 'Run' in 'Start Menu' and enter the command 'dxdiag.'
2]Select the 'More help' tab
3]Click the 'Override' button
4]Set the default refresh rate for DirectX games to your preference.Be careful to not exceed the maximum refresh rate of your monitor.

Now, this one might not help Quake 3, for this u have to use 3rd party utilities like RefreshLock,download it here..

Good Information provided ,but do update all your graphics drivers regularly
and also directX9c do update tht also!!!!
