is the performance and fps better when having 2gb ram or 4gb ram.

i have 2x1gb transcend ddr2 800mhz ram and
2x1gb samsung ddr2 667mhz ram

should i use them combinedly or not.also is the performance difference negligble and not worth the trouble of dealing with 64-bit OS's issues.

I think you can use .. if you have four slots see that there will be two each which will be in the same colour .. so insert your two 800 Mhz RAM sticks in the same coloured slot and the other two in the second coloured slot

Yep, Read the slots as A,B,C,D from the CPU Side to the edge of the Mobo.

The 800MHz RAM Should be inserted in A and C and the 667 MHz should be in the B & D Slots. This will ensure that the RAM Runs in Dual Channel Mode.

tho i think u better stay off from using RAM sticks together that have different frequencies...just to avoid certain issues

May be different motherboards have differnet order so just follow the colour code same type of RAM modules in same colour slots ....

^^ i said for 32 bit OS systems u can utilise onyl 3.2gb of ram whre as in 64bit u can utilise full 4gb... its 2^32 and 2^64 transistors ..;):rolleyes:;-)

No no you got me wrong .. I think i got you wrong i was talking about the data bus width not about the address bus :D

And there is slight mistake in your calculations :D .. When you say 32 bit processor it means it has 32 bit address lines ..so 2^32 combination...so actually the processor can access 2^32 memory locations. i.e calculate 2^32 and divide it by 1024 thrice that is the amount of RAM in GB the processor can utilize ...that turns out to be 4 so a 32 bit proc can access 4GB of RAM

And if you do 2^64 and divide it by 1024 thrice you will get a very huge number in the order of power 10 !!! i don think anyone will be using 1X10^10 GB of RAM ...lol

yeah u took me as data bus width and i took as address lines ..;):D:pNo man i hav personally checked on ma frns pc wit 4gb of ram on 32bit OS its 3.2gb nt complete 4gb ...logically ur correct....;):D
