I am planning to buy 8gb of ram for my laptop z510 i5. Should I buy one 8 gb stick or two 4gb sticks?
How much performance difference is there considering that two 4gb sticks cost 1k more.
Planning on buying G.SKILL RIPJAWS from amazon.in

Dual Channel basically doubles the bandwidth between CPU and RAM. Although the real world boost to applications might be less than this theoretical boost.

Basically not THAT different in real world performance.

check what chipset your laptop is having and then google how much memory and what type your chipset supports.
