Questions re railway tickets

Hi,

Im trying to book railway tickets from Pune to coimbatore on 26th May 2012, preferable Kanyakumari Express. For tatkal booking, wt this moment I get an error "The Dates given were outside ARP" so iu beilive i can book tickets at 8AM in the morning on 25th May.

Question is, if my tatkal booking is not confirmed, can I still board the train ?
I need to to do alternative arrangements (like booking bus) if this doesnt work out. im travelling by train 1st time.

Do these trains have boggies for short travel, which u can board and then take tickets ?? or is there any way I can start the journey without confirming the ticket but then get it confirmed through the TC as and when passengers clear the sits on upcoming stations ??

No you cannot board the train if your ticket is not confirmed.
But if its RAC then u can. If the waiting no. is around 5-10, then it may be confirmed by the time u travel.

Getting in the train without a ticket is risky, but some people do get away. Goto Indian Railinfo and check if your train has a general class bogey..I dont recomend that you travel by it though coz ur journey is long...

I will still try booking tatkal tomorrow 8AM and decide about an alternative depending on the Wait List.

Tatkal online booking is a just a fraud by irctc..
the website always give error page loading between 8am to 8.05am..
in which all of the tatkal tickets get bookd..
Shame on indian railway

I booked the tickets in the morning today.. when i started is was damn slow, there were 174 avalbl tickets.. in the middle of booking it became 65 and when i completed the payments i came up with a waiting list 8. It took me 6 minutes in total to finish this.. indian rail sucks...

Date of Journey: Sat May 26, 2012 Class: Sleeper - SL (Total Seats available for this Class/Quota: Avbl 174)
Passenger 1: Waitlist# 8 (Booking Status: W/L 14,CK)

Do i have a chance?? will this be confirmed ??

^^ Maybe I am too late.. but waiting tickets booked online have a high chance not to get confirmed, especially in just one day!
But I hope your tickets are confirmed.

I have experienced this a lot of times once.
During this period (8 am to 8:05 or something) website of IRCTC is under heavy load. And I have heard that the the agents have some special advantage over this. So they are given preference. Naturally seats fill fast.
That, or it's just that demands are surplus due to uncontrolled population.

^^ It's possible to book ticket(s) at 8AM. But one needs to be really fast. I've done that a couple of times in the past and I'm always ready for a challenge!

I have booked tickets for 4 semesters. So you can book between 8 - 8.05am

^^ It also depends on the place for which you are booking tickets, as well as the time of the year when you are doing so.
Eg: Book a ticket for the next day for the train to Bihar just before "Chaath Pooja". You will know what I mean

Anyway, but these days the line seems to get blur more and more.

Previously there was trick to book ticket ubder tatkal quota and then directly click PAY at 8am. (i.e. U could finish all the crappy filling form stuff and be ready to pay at 8). This was done using firebug extention of firefox.
But now coz they are taking id proof no. this is no more valid i guess...
