Question : Do you really need a 8/12 thread CPU for gaming ?

Upgraders Guide: Ryzen 3 vs. Core i5-2500K vs. FX-8370

In most games, with the GTX 1060 6 GB, a Pentium G4560 which is only a Dual Core Hyper Threaded CPU matches the FPS offered by Quad Core Hyper Threaded CPU's. So why does anyone need to buy the more expensive Quad Core/ Hexa Core CPU's for gaming ? . Those 6 Core/8 Core CPU's make sense only if you are into video editing, streaming etc or you are playing at 1440P/ 4K and you are running a GTX 1070/1080.

No game today uses more than 4 cores. A quad core with fast clocks will serve gamers just fine.

Cheers !

It all depends on the type of games you intend to play.
You will know that playing heavy multi player online games such as FPS will be CPU intensive and four CPU cores ain't gonna cut it, let alone two cores.
Also, if you have heard of sim based games, they stress your CPU heavily and benefit a lot from number of cores.

These things aside, it also matters on your game code, like how well they have been written ( for multi threading, for SMT/HT, and for Multi Cores).
Look at Crisis from previous gens were the most recent one.
