I am unable to install any linux on my acer aspire 4520, be it Ubuntu or Redhat on my laptop. The installation completes but does not boot up. While Ubuntu gives some southbridge errors, Redhat does not recognize the hard-disk and does not install.
Being a student of Computer engineering, I am guessing that this is an architectural fault. But the fact was not stated in any of the brochures, either supplied by the Acer India. Not only this, the laptop came bundled with linux, according to documentations. If that be the case, Linux should be working fine.

Bond, Desi Bond!
1) Which versions of ubuntu and redhat did you try. older redhat versions will not be able to detect 4520's HDD as it is sata HDD.
2) *ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=510352. It's a thread for 4520 on ubuntu
3) Try using Fedora 9 or opensuse 11. They should work or try using RHEL 5.2

It's not an architectural problem. It should be a problem with drivers and nothing else. along with linux, download laters graphics drivers from nvidia site.

Ok, I was using redhat 9. That is why the problem i guess. But even as I insert the Ubuntu 7 dvd, it starts with a set of errors! But does start.
The errors are something like ".....southbridge(2 digit numbers)..... :: memory address ..." as far as I remember. After that when the install completes, it does not boot up into ubuntu. Freezes midway!
