Processor utilization Issues!

I have a P4-HT-2.8Ghz on an intel original 915GAV motherboard with 256MB DDR400 RAM with no graphics card.

What I've noticed recently is that when using small editing features in photoshop or just viewing a java or flash file on a webpage just increases the processor's processing and the processor FAN starts to howl at top speed!

The reason I am putting this post right now is because what surprised me was, when I tried to highlight couple of threads in one of the forum inside Digit forum by clicking and dragging the mouse, it increased the processing and the fan started to howl again! That is not normal!

I tried putting on some extra local thermal grease on the processor but that didn't make much of a difference to see it was the processor temp that was rising out of control making the fan increse it's speed to cool it down. I don't know what else to do! I don't have any heavy memory applications running and no unknown processes in Task manager.

Help me from the Howling!!:(

Only one additional fan at the rear. But I dont' understand as to why the processing should increase so dramatically when I just highlight something on the forum like I said before. So lets look into that than temperature

Try checking proccy utilisation from task mgr when you 'highlight' sth.Does it really shoot up so much.
You would be ill advised to apply 'local' thermal compund on the processor. Does more bad than good.
Maybe due to temp. your fan is already at the threshold of moving to the next speed level and even a percent more of processor utilisation makes it go full throttle.
Make sure the cabby ventilation is good, airflow is proper.blah,blah,blah.

The proccy utilization does shoot upto 90%+ when I do that.. that's what puzzles me.. And when I use photoshop.. sometimes.. I see that one core graph goes upto 90-95% but the other core is at 10-15%. So much for HT and photoshop!

Have you opened the cabinet and checked for dust, cleaned the RAM modules and the fans, and made sure all cables are firmly secured?

Hmmm .. a friend of mine use a 3.0 GHz HT CPU of a 915P mobo .. while gaming , his cpu fan speed too increases dramatically .. infact , after quiting the game , it seems he just switched off a pump .. we tried hard to find a solution to this but didn't manage to find one .. i think it a problem with the Prescott generation , CPU fan speed is sensitive to CPU temps ...
