Hi all
I have previously installed Real Player and didnt uninstall it but deleted the files manualy.. Stil I have an icon in the Control Panel which I want to remove.. Can anyone suggest a method to remove it without installing a third party software. I use Win 2k with SP4.

^^ Hmmm... i was in library and couldn't search.

Anyways do the following:
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. To delete an entry simply click on the entry you would like to remove and then click on the Delete this entry button.

Why does anyone need HJT for this? Click Start>Run and type in regedit and press Enter. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and look for anything related to RealPlayer (realsched, TKBell, etc. ) and right click and delete them and you should be done.

enoonmai i think those registry entries will remove autorun files not the control panel enteries

for removing control panle entries go to c:\windows(or whaterevr is your installation folder)\system32 and search for *.cpl files, these all files are the control panel applets just remove the one for real corporation from her, i would say instead of directly deleting it move to some personal folder and then see that evrything in control panel is working fine

Hmm, yeah, you're right. I really need an eye exam, a brain exam and lots of sleep, I am really messing up big time. I didn't even notice he mentioned Control Panel. OOPSIE! Yes, what he can do is safely download TweakUI for Windows from here:

and run it and uncheck the prefscpl.cpl file from it, or he can manually search for the prefscpl.cpl file and delete it. Thanks, I will go to sleep before I start making more mistakes. Strike Two already. :D

why need title?
@enoon not many are familiar with registry.. take me for example.. not now.. but few yrs back.. i wldn dare to modify stuffs in reg.. but now i know sumthin atleast if not all.. :p so i dont hesitate to del em.. but then u see ppl who r new to comp.. i know its all the same.. del the key manually and del it thro HJT.. but then i feel its better for newbies to use 3rd party s/w to uninstall em..
