Based on the suggestions given on digit forum, today i shopped for a laptop hdd + usb casing (seagte 80 gb + vaio usb casing = 2700) instead of going for a pendrive :D
I inserted the hdd in casing and when i plugged it into my PC, win2k successfully installed all drivers (usb-to-ide bridge and usb mass storage device).
But still I am not able to view the drive in My computer ;(
and this is very heart breaking and frustating :(
do i need to fromat the drive...???
plzzzzzzzzzz help.. (this wait is kiling me............... )

PS:- i have uploaded a screenshot of my device mgr

heres the answer:- (got that 4m techrepublic)
Managed to find the right search paramters- use XP's own partition manager in Go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Disk Management Click on the small section that says "Unknown" or "Not Initialized". Right click and select "Initialize Disk" then right click on the right portion of the next window and select "New Partition" to start the New Partition Wizard.

I am so happpyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!!!!!!!!!!
