I purchased an internal hdd of Western Digital 750GB (Rs. 6600) and a TAG SATA to USB casing (Rs. 750), from Lemington Road (or Grant Road) in Mumbai, with bill and 1 yr. guarantee on casing and 5 yr. guarantee on HDD. It has been 2 weeks since it was running comfortably.

One day, I started and I found it's format to be RAW and all my data was lost. Now, I've formatted it, and trying to run Data recovery softwares to recover my data, may be I'll found it. Please tell that can it be possible to lose all the data, or is there any problem with Western Digital HDDs ('cus they are cheaper than Seagate) or Casing may be responsible for that. Or, I must go to the shop from where I purchased and blame him, or I must take some precautions beacause it is not an actual external hdd but a converted one. Please help me!

I could recover only half of my data, after buying I formatted (NTFS) it well and kept more than 100GB of my data in it. All of a sudden this all happened...

Recovery software that I used was Data Recovery Doctor, I found it to be a good software.

Can it be possibly due to a strong magnet, I mean if I put a strong magnet near the hdd (internal), can it possibly lose some of the data, or format, or some other damages?
