Back to school!!
Ya I remember having it in my APC 650VA. Shows system battery availability, has battery health monitoring, diagnostic test, and can grace fully shut down the system when 2-3 mins of battery life are left.

I miss it on my APC 1100VA. Not sure why they did not include it in this model... :(
You don't even need powerchute, windows does a pretty good job with the UPS service.

P.S- I frequently hear about high wattage requirements but my config below(excl. the monitor) gives me 40-50 min back-up time on my 650va.

How will Windows recognize the battery/power diagnostics, there is no physical connection between the battery(UPS) and the OS.

You even get 40-50 minutes of backup on full load..??

No, my APC UPS has some cable with one USB end that goes in the PC and the other end that goes in the UPS(Custom connector), through this all the battery stats are reported to the PC just like a laptop.

Using APC Powerchute my UPS Firmware can also be reprogrammed to stop the annoying beeps in battery mode, and sensivity(voltage tolerance) can also be programmed.

Screenshots:

Windows Device Manager(The UPS drivers are present in windows, no installation needed):

PS-I've uninstalled powerchute after reprogramming the UPS(stopping the beep and sensitivity setting).

Back-Up time: 38 mins for full CPU load(OrthosPrime), 45-50 mins @ no load(like burning a Disc)

BTW-I didn't check the stats for full GPU load because I won't be gaming during a powercut, same goes for CPU load, I just need to finish burning the discs as I've gotten a lot of coasters after a power cut before.

^^

Yes, that is what I meant all along. The 650VA one has the integrated monitoring interface, but the 1100VA one does not...!

Had the 650VA before migrating to the 1100VA. With 1100VA diagnostics are not possible, which is sad. :(

I know, I know! No Monitor or KB & Mouse in the list! That is because I couldn't get the ones I wanted, namely, a 24 inch non-TN panel monitor within 30K and Logitech MX5500 Revolution. Currently I am using my 5-year old 21 inch CRT (Samsung SyncMaster 1100p Plus) and Logitch MX4000 cordless desktop. I am also waiting for a final decision on a good CPU cooler within 5K (my personal choice: TRUE-120 Black Edition, but I shall see).

By the way, my PC case CMRC1100 Cosmos S came with a 120mm HDD fan (on the front) with Red LED, but personally I would prefer a Blue one. I may be able to buy one from MD Computers, but if someone is interested in buying the fan (of course, at a discount) from me, that would be nice!

Hey tkin, you wouldn't need another 120mm CM fan with Red LED, would you?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am looking for a 24 inch non-TN panel, preferably with up-down, tilt, swivel and pivot functions (base adjustments).

By the way, I bought the same model of samsung DVD Writer last December, but within a month it developed a peculiar problem: writes DVD+R/RW, but not CD-R/RW! I have been too busy last few months to go back to Supreme Technologies to get it replaced. Last time I needed a replacement (HDD), I had to Q up for a long time before I had my turn for getting the HDD tested by them. I am planning to do that next week.

Along with the components for my new PC, I also ordered a Corsair Voyager GT 16 GB at Vedant, Chandini Chawk, more than a month ago but am still waiting for the latter.
