you can connect a IDE HDD on a motherboard the dosen't support these kind of old hdd. There is a adapter version of this (100% Brand New USB 2.0 TO SATA / IDE (2.5,3.5 & INCH) CONVERTER CABLE KIT | eBay) but disadvantage is it need electricity and occupies space. i tested it, both works
