^^ISRO?? Why so?
ISRO satellites do not allow for more number of transponders. Why...who knows, compare it to sats used by direct TV, they have satellites having 100+ transponders as compared to isro's less than 30.
Private operators cannot use their own satellites over india to provide better HD content because of TRAI. Hence they are forced to use compression in the channels that they provide in order to fit them on limited number of transponders allotted to them on Insro's sats.
That statement reeks of ignorance. TRAI has directly or indirectly meant that we have one of the lowest cellular rates anywhere in the world. And for a country that had space technology denied to it because of nuclear activity, isro has been nothing short of outstanding in the department.

Am I talking about cellular rates, I'm talking about internet rates.
Space tech denied? Who just sent unwanted sh1t to mars wasting tax payers money?

70 crores for a mars mission is a waste for you ? We need a thread about this on the war zone so that I can genuinely vent off :D
Maybe ISRO cannot put more tansponders because they dont have deep coffers to reach into. More number of transponders also means more power consumption, bigger solar panels, more shielding, more weight and ultimately bigger rockets. Know why we couldnt just launch the mangalyaan on a direct orbit to mars? Yeah, we dont have rockets beig enough. Same with the Chandrayaan. The tech that ISRO uses is largely indigenous. Did you have HDTV in the US in the 1980s, eh ?

"Private operators cannot use their own satellites over india to provide better HD content because of TRAI. " - Sources ?
And how is it TRAI's fault that we dont have good internet plans ? (its much better in the cities now AFAIK, but the rural areas still suffer)

We sent a mission to mars DESPITE being denied space tech. Despite being denied cryogenic engines. Despite not having ONE-THIRD the budget of a proposed statue. You need some perspective to appreciate it. Its like building your own wacom tablets out of your pocket money because everyone refused to let you buy one - I suppose that gives some much needed perspective here ...

For plain reading - no images - nothing can beat an ebook (e-ink) reader and the kindle is a fine example of it.
Any LCD display like the Ipad's depends on light emission from the display to be able to be readable.

In a VERY exaggerated, (but not inaccurate) analogy the kindle is like gazing at the moon while the Ipad is like staring at the sun, you know whats the difference now :)

How good is this?
Can you do a quick review?
Is it as good as reading book. What are it's benefits over say iPad?

Advantages - Cheap
Ridiculously good batterly life - A month is not too farfetched AFAIK
Excellent viewability under sunlight - as good as regualr paper.

Disadvantages-
Typically only Black and white display
Poor with graphics/images only a little better than your old Nokia 3310 in this regard
Kindle, AFAIK, doesnt support text reflow for ebooks not purchased from them (not sure if there is any free software which overcomes this)

In short, if reading text is your priority nothing beats an e paper reader.
