Can ne1 tell me what SOCKET 939 means?

Is it related to mobo or processor?

I know nothing about it, so pls tell me!

thnx :D

The Hardware Labs
socket 939 is the type of socket your processor fits into on the motherboard. a socket 939 processor will require a socket 939 motherboard. there are many different sockets such as socket 754 , socket 478 , socket a etc.

thnx buddy!
Now pls answer these questions, I know u can :D

1.) Does these socket no. make ne difference?

I mean Is socket 939 processor is better than socket 754 or 478?

2.) And it means the mobo which support these socket processors, can't support other processors, like P4 ?

3.) And P4 hv HT technology, does AMD hv it?

4.) P4 is available in 3 GHZ , and AMD 3000+ with 939 pins is 1.8 Ghz. Will it make a gr8 difference in speed and performance?

1. ya socket number makes all the diff... socket 754 is dead now and socket 939 is the present one. and socket 478 is for intel man. socket 478 is also dead now , the latest intel processors come in a lga-775 socket.

2. An AMD mobo will not support a P4 and vice versa.

3. AMD has something similar to HT .. i cant recall the name though. Its fine tuned in their E3 revision processors.

4. Gigahertz is not all that counts. If it was all about gigahertz then AMD would have never been able to grab intels market share.

And finally a advice .. stop getting confused dude. just go n buy what u have decided.

A64 3000+ with MSI RS482-M2-IL (socket 939) is 9900/- here in kolkata..... latest quote....

i dont think that will be inclusive of tax..is it ?

add 4% vat... so that makes it...umm...Rs. 10296/-

something about sockets...

socketF, socket 940, s939 and s754 are the names of sockets...
s939 has 939 pins... socket 754 has 754 pins.. all the sockets i mentioned are AMD platform....
s939 is new... but amd has declared socketM2..

socket defines the type of connection between ur mobo and proc.... so when i say 3000+ s754 is 2.0Ghz and 3000+s939 is 1.8Ghz... what u mean is that a 1.8Ghz proc on 939 is equivalent to a 2.0Ghz proc on 754...

s754 is not dead yet because AMD decided to launch semprons on 754.... which means that 754 is alive... so news about s754 put to death is also false....

s939 semprons are also declared .... this is to keep s939 alive when sM2 is out....

Hope this clears ur doubts about sockets...
and u cant fix a processor of one type of socket into another....

There is no socket that AMD and intel both use so dont get confused about using intel procs on AMD sockets...
