Please suggest a good 64 -bit config for 3ds max

My friend at Dell discouraged me from buying a laptop for 3ds max work.He suggested a rough configuration like this(He assembled it 1 year ago from Singapore.He said it came under 40,000) :

AMD 4800 X2
ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe
7600GT(or GTX)(512 MB) graphics card(is a 512 MB version available ?)
6 GB DDR2 RAM
500 GB Wetern DIgital 7200 rpm hard disk
24'' Dell monitor[He bought it under EPP so greatly reduced prices for him.Which one is good i am satisfied with a maximum resolution of 1440*900).So could go for Viewsonic or Benq(with DVI input)]
Antec 450W power supply (Rs 3,500/-)
Antec Executive Cabinet(Rs 2,000 /-)
APC 650 VA
Please tell me the approximate price for such a configuration inside Kerala.Digitians from Kerala are welcome for suggestions.But please make it fast :):):)

Is there a single shop in Kerala where I can get all these stuff?

About the config .... if your budget is 40000, then go for the following config :

Q6600 --9k

Asus/Gigabyte G33 or anygood P35/43 chipset mobo -- 3.2k-4.5k

2 x 2GB 800 kingston -- 2800 (4 GB is enough)

Palit 9600 GT 512 DDR3 -- 6500

500 GB HDD --2850

Corsair VX450 --3.5k

Zebby Bijli -- 1.1k

any 19" LCD -- 8.5-9.5k ....

APC UPS ---2.5k

around 41-42 k total ... it will be far far better config thn wat ur friend mentioned.

please note: ALL CPUs WORTH LOOKING AT ARE 64bit.
Except for AthlonXP and previous generations from AMD and Pentium Northwood and previous generations from Intel, all CPUs support 64bit. That includes old ones (pentium D and group) as well as new ones.

get any C2D & use remaining money for nvidia Quadro instead of any gforce card.... u shd get nice dx-9 quadro within 10k....

About LCD : U can get 19" Viewsonic LCD for 82xx Rs, and Dell 19" for 9200 and there other models from LG, Samsung, Acer etc priced in between the above two.

About HDD : may be i quoted wrong price .. its like 3.2 for WD and a little more for Seagate.

About Mobo : u can have Palit P35A, a P35 based mobo with Crossfire Support (i.e. 2 PCIex slots) for Rs 4200

About UPS : yes its the price of 500 VA one.

Right off the assembly line
i have 3 yr old PC with config of
AMD Athlon 64 processor 2800+
1.80GHz
1024 RAM(DDR1)
no graphics card or sound card
mother board is ASUS K8N series

i like playing games on PC somewat med-high end types...and also wantto look at AMD mainly only ...
i 'm nt plainning to upgrade my monitor , UPS and SPeakers as they r gud and new ones.
i wud appreciate if u can tell me a a confid for upgrade with a budget of 15-20000.

I have some questions,please

1.I use an APC 500 VA Back-ups (old model without USB) at present.Would it be sufficient for above config? for peripherals i use creative SBS 20 2.1 speakers only occasionally.I mostly use a Techcom HP-203 headphone

2.@janitha -Should I change the LCD to Dell 19'' since u reported complaints with Viewsonic ?
