ugh..i seem to be hit pretty hard with win xp problems..this time windows explorer has developed a bug..even when my pc is idle it takes a long time to close a folder or hard disk partition...opening a folder takes average time..when i click on the close button it just hangs & closes after some time..at other times it even crashes & the taskbar disappears..i have to manually end explorer & restart it again. even then it takes the taskbar a while to reappear...but browsing through files, folders or partititions is a breeze..the problem sometimes disappears when i restart my computer but at most times it persists..i do not wish to install any alternative to explorer...how should i solve this problem ?

here is my hijack this log--

Did you tweak KAV's settings to high? What is IObit SmartDefrag? Does it work like diskeeper's invisitasking where it defrags in the background as and when the computer is idle? If so, try turning smartdefrag off and see if that makes any difference.

offtopic: default KAV settings are ok for normal use, one thing that should be changed with default settings is the action to be taken when an infected file is found. default is prompt for action, but that should be changed to disinfect, delete if cannot be disinfected

This isn't related to your query, but are you not using a firewall with those p2p applications? (you should)

well i haven't exactly tweaked much with kaspersky...the problem isn't persistent..it comes & goes..sometimes when i'm in the middle of work..sometimes when i've just logged in...if the system is kept idle for an hour it becomes normal again...i don't know what could be causing this..:(
