Hi, I have a USB Based ADSL Modem which works fine with Win-XP, It is detected and is available in Hardware List in my Red Hat Linux Enerprise 4, I have installed the required driver for it in Linux, BUT the "ttyACM0,1,2.." files are not found and also "ttyUSB0,1,2.." files are absent in /dev and /etc, which are required to configure the Modem, What is Solution?

the best bet is to use a pppoe(lan card) connxn for adsl as it is stable.but if u r saying that modem is detected in RHEL,u can try system-config-network-gui or --tui to configure.if device files are not present seems to do with the detection of modem and udev.sometimes modem device files may be even like ttyS0 etc;though u can make dev nodes using "mknod" cmd.also post ur lspci -v .

Try loading the modules

$modprobe usbcore
$modprobe usb-net or usbnet (Either one is right.. I`m not sure )

then run netconfig and enter the ip address , gateway , dns etc.. and do

$service network restart
