Hello Friends,
This is my first post at Digit. Please help me to finalise my configuration. My budget is around 45K. I will be using my PC as 40% for prgramming, 20% for TV, 20% for gaming, 20% for brousing. I have chosen the following configuraion and the prices I got from a local vendor (Data Care Corp.).( Im from Pune):

AMD 64 3000 (Socket 939) Rs. 7800
Asus A8N E mobo. I selected this coz it has PCI E. Rs. 8100
512 MB Transcend (400 MHz) RAM Rs. 2700
Please help me to chose
1. Monitor: I love this model from ViewSonic E72f+ 17" CRT Rs. 7500. Anybody knows its performance over other compititors?

2. Graphics Card: I know nothing abt this part. Right now My budget is Rs. 5000.Plz suggest me a good PCI E card Which will be available in Pune. I called ASUS dealer and he said he has a PCI E card ATi 300 (whts that??)which would cost me aroud Rs. 4000.

3. Cabinet n SMPS: I think I should go for a 450 W SMPS n Cabinet - no idea. My budget is around Rs. 2500 for Cabinet+SMPS. Tell me some Manufacturing companies and models.

4. Wht abt DVD/CD-RW combo? Which one is better? Samsung, LG or ASUS?

What do u think abt my choice of Mobo ? In Pune only ASUS mobos r available for AMD.

What type of programming do you do?

the most intensive task you mentioned might be gaming is others aren't hardcore.

are you hardcore gamer then 5k for graphic card is not enough as that is the most important part of the computer.
Try to get the maximum out of it or try to take agp amd 2800 in 754 socket.

A config higher than your budget

Amd 3000 64 winchester 939,abt 7.5k
asus a8n-e,i got for 9400 but if you get for 8100 take it
abt 15.5k try a bit bargaining etc

Corsair ddr 400 512mb cl=2.5 ,2800 + tax in delhi
but transcend might oc better
also, hynix with d43 might be good ocers maybe 270 or higher
hynix might cost abt 2200-2400
if oc is priority consider hynix or transcend for a bit balance though it might not be as good oc
corsair might fast and stable at stock
for hardcore gaming and for new future games consider atleast 1gb ram though.

80gb 7200rpm is min for abt 2650
but go for atleast sata and sata II has already come
abt 3k for sata
good buy is 160gb seagate sata ncq(isn't it faster) for 4150 i bought in delhi

128mb geforce 6600gt onwards of 9k,consider xfx due to ok fine price and easy available i bought for 10.3

cabinet ,low budget,zebtroncis 400watts + cabinet abt 1.5k

microsfot internet kb black i bought for 480
microsfot ms optial wheel mouse if you find it else logitech mx 310 if you have dough
i bought microsoft basic optical mouse or something i bought for 450 in black

i bought microtek ups 800va for 2300

You have selected a gud Proccy and Mobo acc. to ur budget.
No need to change it. But ur vendor has quoted a bit higher price for the CPU. In my city it costs Rs 7000-7200 including Vat

512 MB Transcend (400 MHz) RAM Rs. 2700

1. Monitor: I love this model from ViewSonic E72f+ 17" CRT Rs. 7500. Anybody knows its performance over other compititors?

Digit has awarded it as the best monitor (Gold) in April 2005.
Stick to it.

Iif your overall budget is 45 k then why are u settling for graphic card like ati 300 series. You can easily go for PCIE 6600 GT whic cost around 11 k which is total value for money.

But if u dont want to go for such expensive Gfx Card. Then buy a mobo like MSI RS480M2-IL which has onboard ATI X200 graphics plus it has an PCIE Slot and cost Rs 5800-6000 only.
However Asus mobo u have selected will give better performace compare to it.

3. Cabinet n SMPS: I think I should go for a 450 W SMPS n Cabinet - no idea. My budget is around Rs. 2500 for Cabinet+SMPS. Tell me some Manufacturing companies and models

Go for Antec SLK 1650 (350W SMPS) costing Rs 2700

or.

Select any gud cabinet like IBOX etc. Rs 500-800
and buy a VIP or Antec 400 Watts SMPS cost Rs 1500/2000 with it

Wht abt DVD/CD-RW combo? Which one is better? Samsung, LG or ASUS?

Dont go for combo. Instead buy a DVD Rom and Cd Writer separately. Wud cost u 300 extra. Go for Liteon ,Sony or Asus. cost Rs 1400 and 1550 respectively.

OR if possible

Get a Liteon 16X DVD Writer (Dual Layer) costs rs. 4300-4500.

Buy a Segate 80 GB HDD cost Rs 2500/2600
If possible get a SATA HDD.

Get a Logitech Multimedia K/B and Optical Mouse Combo Set cost Rs 850

Thanx a million for kool replies... :D By programming stuff, I mean C, C++ and web (ASP, PHP).
When I put all stuff together with their prices, it reaches 42,000. I am yet to finalize Cabinet, SMPS n Graphics Card....
I am not a hard core gamer .. but who know abt the future

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939) 7,800
Asus A8N E 8,100
Transcend 512 MB DDR – 400 MHz 2,700
Seagate SATA 80 GB 3,100
DVD ROM + CD-RW(Separately) 3,000
Floppy Drive 350
ViewSonic 17 CRT True Flat 7,500
Logitech Multimedia 400
Logitech Optical 400
800 VA Microtech 2,300
Installation 550

Total 36,200

Now Im left to decide abt Graphics Card n Cabinet + SMPS n budget is abt 10,000 for both. How much Zebronics Antibiotic cost ? It has got audio n usb at the front.

mate, since your only a 20% gamer a Nvidia 6600 should be enough for you. And since your no hardcore gamer ignore the suggestions for a SLi mobo. the 6600 (non GT) should be around 7-8 K which leaves you with 2-3K for your cabinet and SMPS. I would suggest Antec or VIP powersafe. Antecs are the best and should come within your budget. At no cost do not compromise on your power supply!!!

6600gt is a better buy for 9-10k

also, don't reply too much on digit reviews as they only mess up things

in their mag according to them fx 5900xt was better 9800pro,obviously they are mad also i think that gave more points to creative nispire 5200 i think that altec lansing 251 i think.

onboard graphics by msi 939 pci-e won't be excellent

if features are ok and you don't need sli consider a8n-e might oc better than asus a8n sli delux which you might get for abt 10900.
