I would recommend the Liteon anyday. Samsung does not even support all formats and is crap.

Check reviews on hardcore cdrw sites and you will find Liteon is the hacker's favourite drive since it can read anything and copy anything.

My Liteon can even read a scratched DVD which my friends Samsung spat out

Liteon would be the best choice. Liteon is also firmware upgradable so that if any media is not compatible, a new firmware can solve the problem without having to upgrade to new model.

By the way it was in the IT news in May 2004 that SONY has stopped making DVD writers and gets them manufactured by LITEON. So all SONY DVD writers are actually Liteon. Why pay higher for the SONY label when you can get the same Liteon drive cheaper

Right off the assembly line
I need a Cd writer as well as a DVD drive. Which way should I go? Should I get a combo or should I get them separately? I can spare around 3000/-.
