Even if you manage to repair your Windows installation without a Win XP CD this time, it is likely that something will eventually go wrong in the future that will require a complete reinstallation.

If you have the XP files in your hard disk, boot the computer into DOS and run the XP installation/repair from DOS.

It's also possible that the problem may be caused by faulty hardware. The RAM(s) may need to be reseated or you may have bad sectors in the boot partition.

Remove your RAMs, clean the contacts and put them in again. If that doesn't cure it, boot into DOS and do a surface scan.
