I am planning to build an PC /MINI PC/HTPC with a budget of around 25-30k. The machine should be able to play full hd on my lcd and also be able to be on continuous active mode for days ans sometimes weeks. It shouldn't overheat and shutdown.
Mostly to be used for internet, watching hd movies and constant download. since i am not into gaming i am thinking against the graphic card for two reasons. a- cost and b- heating. however there are some concerns and that causes a selection dilemma.
a) THE CPU WILL BE INSIDE A WOODEN CABINET WHICH WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR MOST OF THE TIME. HENCE LACK OF VENTILATION. WHICH WILL RESULT IN OVERHEATING. (SEE IMAGES
).
MAXIMUM SIZE TO PLAY WITH IS 12.5Hx10Dx20W. (317x254x508 mm)
b) i have the habit of keeping the cpu on for days/ week without shutting it off which will again result in overheating.
c) should be future proof for give or take 5 years.
d) should not lag when multitasking or watching full hd movies. also use kaspersky as antivirus and my current laptop start to lag when mutitasking
while kaspersky is running a scan.
e) onboard wifi preferred.
please advise with links and prices.
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Generic answers will not work. Be exact and avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Watch full hd/ bluray movies on lcd tv. internet access and constant downloads. (sometimes i don't switch my laptop of for weeks.) no games
2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 25k can be extended to 32k max.
3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: no
4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: windows 7 ultimate/ windows 8*
5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1tb hard drive (3.5)
6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: no.
7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:Monitor as i have a lcd tv. i also have wireless keyboard and mouse.
8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: november 2012-jan 2013.
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: assembler
10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: andheri -mumbai. i will be buying locally (lamington road)
11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:dimensions of the cabinet should not exceed 12"x10"x20 (HxDxW)
also planning to have a cpu fan that can be added to the cabinet.
it should tackle overheating issues and play full hd movies via hdmi seamlessly.
one more point to add it should have inbuilt wifi adaptor
also i can either buy/build a mini pc or buy the new HP Pavilion G6-2010AX HP Pavilion G6-2010AX Laptop (APU Quad Core A8/ 6GB/ 1TB/ DOS/ 1.5GB Graph): Flipkart.com: Compare, Review HP Notebook with laptop cooling pad and extended 2yr warranty.
personally i prefer cpu as the screen of the laptop would be a waste besides its currently over my budget and laptops don't last as long as cpu's.
also i have been told the new amd trinity processors run cooler than intels i series. so i was thinking either the a8 or the a10.a10 would be more futureproof.
