Orkut Finally Shutting Down Today

Google's first social networking platform Orkut will be locked down today. One of the first social platforms will be a history as it will be closed today. Google had announced to shut it down back in June this year and had asked the users to back-up their data from the site.

Google had also offered these users time until today to download their data from the social platform, so that the transition would be safe and sound.

But, Google will "preserve an archive" of all public communities on Orkut, which will be available online starting September 30, 2014. The service that was launched on January 24, 2004, will anyways, bid farewell today. So far, the success of the most widely used social networking sites - Facebook and Twitter have in fact evolved to an extent that Orkut was somewhat out-dated. However, it was quite dear to early social site users. But it might not be a great challenge to Google in shutting it down as even the unchallenged search engine giant has moved on to a new platform - the Google Plus.

By today's standard, I sound so silly. :D

Anyway, Orkut was the first experience of a "Social Network" for me, and its sad that it had to end this way.

Btw, finding some specific profile is next to impossible due to lack of inbuilt search in that database.

Damn. The great invention of women stalking, meaningless friend befriending (whom you wouldnt even call in real life), Attention span disorder inducing social network is dead. But dont cry. The garbage bin has now been replaced with Facebook . Rejoice!!!

When official news came 2 months before, I check my orkut profile. I even had orkut app :D I was not so active player in orkut but a tribute from my side

In the zone
I used Google+ for a bit few days ago, and it seems better than facebook. in that case why they will keep orkut running :p
