Rallying The Rig
I have an AOC 19'' Monitor + Keyboard + Mouse + UPS.

Need to replace my CPU which works on a Pentium Dual Core.

Please assist me in purchasing the parts that I shall assemble at home in Delhi along with price.

01. Pentium I Processor.
02. Good Solid State Motherboard with great onboard Graphics.
03. DDR III Ram at least 4GB.
04. 500 GB HDD
05. USB 3.0 Ports.
06. Good Cabinet.
07. Great PSU.

Shall be connecting my existing 500 GB HDD as secondary drive along with my DVD Writer. I do not want a very expensive unit but a decent medium range one. Shall be using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit.

My friend these are gaming specs as they appear. I need a machine which does all good with an occasional game. Also, the cost of assembling the CPU.

Answering the queries now. But, my thread header is unique so that I can identify. At 50, things can sometimes be not so honky dory with a failing eyesight.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Extremely light gaming + regular MS Office work + multimedia.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Rs. 25000.00 approx. only for CPU

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit (No Windows 8)

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500 GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Plan to use my existing 500 GB HDD as secondary + DVD Writer

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: October 2014

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Built all so far myself

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhi & shall buy components from Nehru Place

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Wish to go in for an i5 processor and a good solid state mother board + 3.0 USB.

which monitor do you have?
which games are you going to play? for high end games , a gpu is recommended. otherwise the igpu would suffice. you dont need an i5 for regular office work! so mention the apps/games you would use. it doesnt take much time and will help those who suggest rigs!

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: October 2014

No sense in asking for suggestions 1 month before you want to make the purchase. New parts are released, pricing changed drastically even in a weeks time. Start the thread just one week before you intend to make the purchase.

I have an AOC 19'Monitor friend. Am not game intensive but work intensive. Would prefer an i5 processor as it is fast.

@OP - if you can try using the 64 bit version of windows 7. BTW, how about a apu based config ?

i5 for your work load is like buying a Truck to carry 1 kg wheat. Even i3 would be overkill. Buy a G series CPU or an AMD APU.
