I've got an ATi chipset based motherboard, i.e., MSI-RS480M2. I'm thinking of getting a DX10 based card for my system from the US. I want to know if there will be a conflict if an nVidia based card is used as the ATi based chipset is already there. Also, I don't know how much my cousin can really afford. I assume, within $200. Which cards do you suggest? Since I'll be using linux a lot, I hope there will be no conflict. Please let me know.

AFAIK, there should be no conflict running an Nvidia card on an ATi chipset motherboard. And since you would be using linux, i strongly suggest you go with Nvidia. And for your budget, i think 8600GT 256 MB should suit you well!

Save some money, this card is overkill & useless for Linux. Just get a GeForce 7300GS with 256 MB RAM, if all u want us to work on linux.

No sir!! I wouldn't be stuck to linux though it will be my primary OS. I'll be wanting a card for Vista and some eyecandy in games :D

GX, i think there is a reason why he posted his budget here. If he has such a budget, why not invest in a DX10 card?

Something which I found while trying to get some info. I'm a bit scared now :( *club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=188647 While other forums and people say that its fine, this guy has the same motherboard as mine! So, what say?

Yeah, as long as your monitor's wire's plugged to the Graphic card, I don't think you'd face ANY issue at all cause then the on-board just sits idle or can be used for another VDU. I think that though that guy has installed the card, he's forgot to switch the cable of the monitor to the new socket :p

Oh yeah, which brand to prefer in the US? I read a review of the 8600GT of Gigabyte brand. I was impressed with the cooling. Could you guys suggest any good brand? Within $200 mind you :D

Got the XFX 8600 GT XXX edition from my cous and it's running perfectly on the motherboard. Small problems with drivers on linux. That's a seperate thread in the OSS section :D
