Check jumper settings.

First go to bios and check if its detecting there. Most prob its the jumper isuue

If its getting detected in the bios and not showing up in the My comp area then most prob the HDD is faulty.

Do you have an XP or any other OS cd??

Ok what you do is detach your 320GB and only keep 40 GB attached.
Insert XP cd and start boot.
It will show some copy files ect.... Let it go on....

When it detects your HDD it will show 38800 MB space press F8 and agree and then DELEATE PARTITIONS....

Again format the HDD and make one or two partitions and stop when it asks Install XP on this partiton. Say Dont install and ESC and remove the HDD....

Then attach 320GB to and then check if it shows up...

If not the HDD is faulty

Its something to do with the jumpers. Try to connect each HDD at a time and see if it is detected. Try it on a different computer to eliminate any issues with HDD itself.

In that case best try it connection it to some other PC.. may be your friends ect.

Better if its normal IDE the old PC cos sometimes the Sata HDD and HDD connected to the IDE DVD DVD creats some problem detecting.

Or else try removing the DVD and just keeping the IDE HDD.

i heard that wrong setting of jumper could blast my hdd so i am afraid to tweak with lumper settings

LOL i dont think so...

It just does not get detected if the jumpers arent set properly. One should be master and other slave.

If you dont know the setting then what you do is remove the jumper of the HDD and let the Jumper of the DVD be as it is dont alter and then attach.

Also sometimes in bios it does not detect directly so you need to do auto search again for couple of times in bios.
