2) AVG or Avast!
3) I don't know -- I don't use them. I use Opera's inbuilt manager.
4) No idea, again I use cdrecord and mkisofs on Linux
5) Thunderbird
6) Sorry again.
7) Amarok, but available only for linux. iTunes also works
8) Image editing - GIMP, Audio editing - Audacity

WinXP Pro OEM comes to around 6k I think...

1, Office suite - OpenOffice.org
2, Antivirus and spyware - Avast+Adaware+Spybot SnD
3, Download manager - Star Downloader
4, Burning software - CD Burner XP Pro, DeepBurner, the software bundled with the drive
5, mail client like ms outlook - Eudora (sponsored mode and lite mode), Mozilla Thunderbird
6, cd/dvd cataloguer - no clue... but check out Digit CDs/DVDs... I think there were a few over the past year or so...
7, music and video organiser or cataloguer - see 6
8, editing softwares ie, video audio and image - Photofiltre and Gimp for images, Virtual Dub for videos, not sure for audios
9, converters of audio, video and image - dont remember now...
10, file and folder protection - NTFS partitioning itself gives good protection

Other software:
1. Crimson Editor and Edit Pad Lite are good Notepad replacements
2. Kerio Personal Firewall and Zonealarm are good Firewalls
3. Tune XP and X-teq Xsetup are good tweaking software
4. CCleaner is a good system maintenance tool
5. ZipGenius is a free compression software
6. Opera and Firefox are great browsers. If you prefer IE, go for Maxthon or Slimbrowser
7. K-Lite codec pack is very important for audios/videos.
8. Java RunTime, DirectX 9.0c, .NET Framework, etc should prob. get installed with your SP2+AutoPatcher group

@Raaza, if your file system is NTFS, you can use Windows' Security and Sharing settings to protect your files. Security affects how you want others who use the computer to be able to access your files or not. Sharing affects this for those who want to access files over a local area network (in an office, etc). Right-click on a folder and select Properties. Go to Security tab and create rules for allowing/disallowing people from accessing your files. Only those with administrative privilidges will be able to overrule security settings of other users...

Note: Deny overrides Allow commands, so dont be applying a Deny to Everyone - it will override an Allow to you... instead, list out other users and deny them permission...

Garbage

God of Mistakes...
why u don't use Trial Versions of Paid softwares?

I use them for trial period & then again re-install them. lol

sakumar79

Technomancer
@shirish_nagar: Doing that is equivalent to piracy. The trial versions are to be run for 30-days only (typically). The license agreement that you agree in the installation process indicates that if you wish to use the product for more than 30 days, you have to purchase the software. Therefore, you are breaking the license agreement by using it for more than 30 days without paying them. That means you are pirating the software.
