For u r information Linux is always free.
Any query regarding LINUX , post in open source. There are all Linux Buddies always ready to help Newbies.
If you want a windows like linux then go for xandros. but i wont recommend that coz i believe every operating systems have their own look and feel, way of doing things etc.
IMO go for Mandrake, SuSE, Redhat etc and finally to community based linux like ubuntu, debian etc
I'd strongly suggest Fedora and/or ubuntu. Here are unofficial guides for them.
*ubuntuguide.org/
*stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html
Get Fedora Core 4 from even though FC5 test 3 is available as always start with a stable version,
*download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/4/i386/iso/
download these,
FC4-i386-disc1.iso
FC4-i386-disc2.iso
FC4-i386-disc3.iso
FC4-i386-disc4.iso
You dont need the rescue cd's.
Get ubuntu 5.10 breezy from here,
*mymirror.asiaosc.org/ubuntu-distro/5.10/
ubuntu-5.10-install-i386.iso (It would be the fifth in the list.)
Burn in a cd using any recording program and instert them at boot time.
