Hey Guys,
Its been quite a long time since I posted here. (Infact I came here asking for configurations I think).
/Sorry if this is in the wrong forum/
I see a lot of you suggest excellent configurations for the given budget. We even have an official thread which is updated regularly to show the latest prices.
But one thing I see amiss everywhere is the cost for the operating system. Now I do understand it is upto the OP to decide on what he runs and us the hardware enthusiasts assume he runs Linux and so we dont suggest an operating system. The cost for an operating system is ignored completely.
For starters, I have been through this. I was part of a defunct rival forum and during its hay days did exactly the same thing. Suggest top notch hardware for the quoted budget but never the operating system. But that was years ago and I had no means for living on my own and I suggested builds which cut down on all uncessary parts / stuff. And the operating system was always on the top of the NO NEED TO SPEND ON IT list.
The OS was on that list because
1. We can always use linux which is free
2. You already own a copy of windows
3. The other option which everyone knows.
If a person can afford 80k or 1L above for a system he might be even able to afford the extra 6 to 10k for the operating system. Why dont we include the cost of the OS in it as well? He may or may not buy it but if he buys it thats a step in the right direction. Your official hardware configuration threads could include options for the OS as well. Need not be a mandatory one but you could mention it somewhere. And we do get genuine OS for less for students etc which can be an option as well.
(A gamer buying new hardware without OS so he can run linux , im not buying that story)
I have seen international blogs and they too do the same, they ignore the OS part. Anyone who is intelligent enough to ask for a configuration is also equally intelligent enough to install the you know which way.
P.S - I dont work for MS, I dont work for any OS related company. This post is just out of plain curiosity.
