Hello all. I am new to this forum!
Please fill the questionnaire
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: I am not an avid stand-alone PC gamer.I only play online mmorpg games and they are dependent mainly on Internet speed than processing power of the computer. But when i do play the current online games, they take up 99% of my computer resources. Some like World of Warcraft, Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, Heroes of Storm, DoTA, Counter Stirke among others refuse to even display correctly. The only one which i end up playing now is called "Tibia" which works better on DX5. I have to keep "adaptable V-Sync" to make it work.. it's a CPU hogging game and not GPU/RAM. Along with it I use Word/excel and surf the internet/ watch videos online on youtube/Dailymotion. Also, I like to play songs on itunes as i feel no other software is designed to give a better music quality output
2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Around INR 100,000. I can extend but i think it will be fine. This configuration will not be changed till Windows 7 support ends in 2020. Hence, I'd not mind going in for i7 and/or 16GB RAM.
3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No. I don't want to finger anything. What you will give me is how it will be used.
4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 Ultimate for now. May upgrade to Windows 10 if need be . My other old stuff won't work with Windows 8.1.
5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1 or 2 TB should be fine. 128 ~ 256 GB SSD required for exclusive Operating system and Program files. How many partitions should be there on my main HD?
6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I do not plan to buy a new monitor. I have a Dell 19 inch (1280 x 1024) square monitor which i am happy with. The graphics card should have a DVI port for connecting the monitor. If not, then I have in mind Dell S2340L 23 inch monitor with LED display.
7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: I have Monitor, keyboard and mouse. But I am open to any mouse designed for "Left hand" gamers. Also, a mechanical keyboard with gold plated connectors v/s the present membrane keyboard if you think it's worth the upgrade. Same goes for monitor - I just enjoy looking at my current square monitor which displays the online games perfectly without leaving margins on the sides.
8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: As soon as possible or by April, 2015
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Not built one myself. Will be done by an assembler.
10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: I live in Shimla. I will be buying locally or can travel to Panchkula/Chandigarh if the need be. I can buy online but then problem of assembling it locally would arise. Which brings me to another question - Is there anybody you can recommend for assembling/buying in Shimla/Panchkula/Mohali or Chandigarh?
11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I'd like to "future-proof" my current investment, to the extent possible. This configuration will not be changed till Windows 7 support ends in 2020. Hence, I'd not mind going in for i7, 16GB RAM and GTX 980.
My last gaming rig (still working) was bought in 2003, with the launch of Windows XP and still runs fine. I seem to be lacking in mainly "Processing power" as even Firefox Browser takes up 99% of my comp. I also play an online 2 D game which runs on 99% computer processing- it hardly takes up more than 400 MB of my old comp's 2GB RAM.
I'd want provision for an external optical drive and built-in wifi. USB 2.0 and 3.
I am also looking forward to buy a UPS with 30 minutes of power backup and surge / spike protection.
Much appreciated,
Klaw
