I just want to share my files between my windows XP laptop and Suse 10.2 Desktop both are having LAN card . Tried SAMBA but no sucess any idea?

Is it possible to p2p network using router with wifi (for laptop) and Lan (for desktop)

If your box doesn't have a static ip-address, or you cannot configure your router/server to provide you with a fixed dhcp-lease, change this configuration parameter to "no".

In this case you cannot use the benefits of WINS.

u can set static ip using yast in suse and manually by ifconfig cmd.

dunno bout normal networking but i use two-way FTP to transfer files between my linux box n windows box.

u can easily set up an FTP server as a network drive n xp n access it as a normal drive , much more faster than normal networking .

Even in Windows-WIndows networking on gigabit connection i get bout 8-10 MB/s data transfer rate , but while using FTP with for transferring same file between the two boxes , i get ~40 MBps

I tried using static IP to my lan card but I can't ping my windows box and vice-versa

You can use a crosswire cable , connect the system`s lan cards together and use samba...

They need to be in the same series... Stop the windows xp default firewall and try..

Post output of "ifconfig" from your Linux system and of "ipconfig /all" from Windows.
