I just want to share my files between my windows XP laptop and Suse 10.2 Desktop both are having LAN card . Tried SAMBA but no sucess any idea?

^^ how to set static IP on my linux box?

Is it possible to p2p network using router with wifi (for laptop) and Lan (for desktop)

If your box doesn't have a static ip-address, or you cannot configure your router/server to provide you with a fixed dhcp-lease, change this configuration parameter to "no".

In this case you cannot use the benefits of WINS.


it is written in the guide, pls read properly

dunno bout normal networking but i use two-way FTP to transfer files between my linux box n windows box.

u can easily set up an FTP server as a network drive n xp n access it as a normal drive , much more faster than normal networking .

Even in Windows-WIndows networking on gigabit connection i get bout 8-10 MB/s data transfer rate , but while using FTP with for transferring same file between the two boxes , i get ~40 MBps

but how to acess this windows FTP server ,

I tried using static IP to my lan card but I can't ping my windows box and vice-versa
