I've search the web to no avail, I hope somebody would kindly please help me. I have spent all my money, cannot buy anymore hardware.

What I want to do is share internet between the two computers

I have a desktop PC, Win XP. It has 2 network cards. One is connected to the ADSL modem and I can surf the net fine.

The modem has it address 192.168.1.1 and the network card has IP address 192.168.1.2

The other network card is connect to the laptop using an Ethernet CAT 5 cable. This network card has 169.254.151.28 and the laptop has IP address 169.254.151.200

On the desktop, I ran Network Setup Wizard. I done everything but I don't get the "Select your private connection" step.

The same on the laptop, don't get this steep also. On the client, in network places, I can see shared folders in the desktop computer.

In the desktop computer, I can see the laptop in network places but I can't open it.

And I can't surf the internet on my laptop.

First of all I will suggest you to buy a switch/HUB.With this you can easily share your internet and files.And best this about this network is, both system are independent for sharing internet.

Now, to your problem....without HUB/ Switch
1) make sure you are using cross climped LAN cable for connecting your laptop and desktop...and straight climped for connecting DSL modem and computer.

2) turn off firewall.It may be blocking.

3) Make IP setting like this:

Modem IP-->> 192.168.1.1

PC LAN 1 (connected to DSL modem)
IP-->> 192.168.1.2
subnet mask-->> 255.255.255.0
Default gateway-->> 190.168.1.1
DNS-->> as given by your ISP

PC LAN 2 (connected to laptop)
IP-->>192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask-->>255.255.255.0
Default gateway-->>192.168.0.1
DNS-->. as given by your ISP

LAN on laptop
IP-->>192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask-->>255.255.255.0
Default getway-->>192.168.0.1

DNS-->> as given by your ISP
