need suggestions for gud USB DVD player

Hi all

I need a gud USB DVD player...budget minimum..brand any

Will it also be able to play subtitles in TV like if I put in USB --- > .avi file with .srt file

will it be able to play subs on TV ?

my USB drive is 2GB ..will 8Gb be also able to play ?

Zero down on a manufacturer & look online for the product manual. However none of DVD player's manual say that they can do so correctly. Alternatively rip a DVD and copy files i.e. .avi, .sub & .idx into a USB drive and try to play from the USB at a showroom if it works then great else hard luck .

IMO go for a Philips DVD player (sorry I don't remember my player's model number; probably some 59XX series). It is reasonably priced (mine is 3.5K) and offers all the features you could ask for. It has image upscaling upto 1080p, HDMI output, can play DiVx, xVid, .avi etc.


You can use "FairUse wizard" for ripping and encoding into .avi.

Ideally it should if they are in the same folder. I have never tried this though.

@esumitkumar, yes, none of the DVD players can play subs directly from USB.
And, DVD players accept only FAT file system USBs.
So, it only would accept files less than 4GB.

And ur 8GB drive, it won't recognize.

B4 u buy any USB enabled DVD player, take an AVI file with u and try playing it in dat DVD player.

I have one cheap DVD player (Passion ) it plays english rips but not hindi rips donno which encoding tech these hindi rippers use.
So, even if the file is an avi ur player may not able to play it.

I am using play station 2 modded connected with 160gb hdd and 8gb pendrive, ps2 can play avi and other major formats using sms player ! google for more information.

I would suggest to go for ps2 rather than a usb dvd player (gaming plus dvd player)

hmm thanks rhitwick and neeraj but PS2 is out of my budget....

will look at other players in market

one more q..can u tell me how to connect laptop to TV ..my acer 5536 has VGA port
(no S port while my TV has no HDMI port)

DVD player with USB & HDMI costs 3000 Rs

Used PS2 will cost you 4500 Rs So PS2 is better choice as you can watch movies & play games too

I think in Palika Baazar delhi modded PS2 is 6k !!!

Check out in your city. Palika bazar ask for used piece not new one.
