I'm volunteering for a non-profit organization based in Chicago that collects community support for global initiatives through the collection of digital signatures and related supporter created profiles & data. We often have to transfer large files, more than several gigabytes, to organizations located throughout the world. The problem is some of these organization are in countries with a weaker IT infrastructure and the large file transfers can take a very very long time or the transfer completely fails due to the unstable network in some countries. Mailing hard drives or using most free transfer products isn't possible because we need to ensure that we are securing our supporters data, privacy, and expediency. Does anyone know of such a software product that could solve this issue. As we are a non-profit, we focus on spending on our ground game and don't have extensive funds to commit towards software. Any suggestion or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your best solution will be torrent. Couple of things you should know:
1)Torrent can be encrypted.
2)Can be password protected.
3)Torrent file is created to send a file over torrent.
4)If this file is not uploaded internet but only the recipient has the torrent file while the file to be downloaded is being seeded on the other end then only the intended recipient can download it.
5)After the download is finished if the file seeder stops seeding the file then no one can download it as the data that the specific torrent file can download is not being seeded by anyone.
6) You can have premium version of torrent clients for added protection.
7)Even before creating the torrent file you can encrypt and password protect the data so in the event of loss no one can open the file.
8)Easiest method would be compress, password protect and split the file into several parts. Also create different torrent file for the some parts of the data and not a single file for entire data to send over the internet. This will ensure data protection

I agree with many of the previous posts. Using a private torrent would be an effective and safe method. Downloads and uploads will always be affected by your ISP and bandwidth, but there are tools that help to optimize how files are transferred. I'd recommend you also consider using Innorix large file transfer solutions. The features offered by products such as these can really simplify the process.
