Hi guys!
I need your help in finding out the best solution for my computer gaming needs.
I have an AMD based machine. The config is:
Proc- AMD 6000+ 3.0ghz 2mB L2 cache
M2A-VM
2+2GB Transcend Ram 800mhz
LG monitor 22 incher, 2ms response time, max resolution 1680*1050
cab+smps = iball cab with the normal 400Watt smps

Now, I want a graphics card which would let me play the latest games(excluding crysis) at nice fps(around 80-100) and full details at the maximum resolution i.e. 1680*1050

Now I am looking here for 2 solutions.
1. Buy a cheap graphics card like XFX 8600GT DDR3 or XFX 9600GT
2. Buy a nice smps, say like 500watts from Tagan or Cooler Master for rs 3000 and buy a graphics card, like 9800GT or ATI 4850 or GTS250 for around rs8000.

The first option would set me back by rs 3000-5000 but I don't know about the performance which I would get.
The second option would set me back by rs. 11000-12000 and will play all the games you throw at it at very good fps + all details.

Now my dilemma is whether to go for the second option or the first. If the first option can give me around 50-60fps at the medium resolutions and medium details then I can be happy with it as it saves a lot of money.

Guys, please pour in your suggestions and other options which you think might be helpful.

The performance you are expecting is a bit too much too handle for a 8600GT or 9600GT. 1680x1050 resolution with 80-100 fps would require a minimum of a GTX275, i think!

thank you hell storm and ssk the geek.

Hellstorm, I am not a proper gamer, it's just the kick to play some games sometimes. If 9600gt can give 50fps with medium settings then I can be happy with it. Please tell me the performance which 9600gt would deliver.

SSK the geek, doesn't the 4850 run hot? and please tell me about the 9600gt, would it require any upgrades to the psu?

HD4850 is lot lot lot better than 9600GT. let it run hot, what's there to lose? Also check for GTS250.

I seriously doubt if 9600GT can give 50+ fps at 1680*1050 resolution for games that are coming out this year. It is meant to be card for 1280x800 resolution.

9600gt 50fps at 1680*1050... is unlikely...
4850 if it runs hot whats the issue it is a very stable card....
& its ssk_the_gr8.... :D ...but geek is also fine i guess

Thanks desiibond. The performance matters, but the price which I have to pay matters more. I am running a normal 400watt iball psu. 9600GT here in my city(Jodhpur) costs rs 5000(XFX 512mb ddr3) and 9800GT costs rs6300(XFX 512mb ddr3). Now I can buy the 9600GT and run it with the current psu, but for the 9800GT or 4850 I would have to buy a 500watt psu for around rs2500-3000 more. The total damage would be of rs.9000-10000. Now this is something to consider.
Also, what's the price of ATI HD4770 which you've mentioned in your signature? And would it run on my smps?

Please advise now.

ssk dude, sorry for that :p
btw I mixed the 2 things here :

I seriously doubt if your iball PSU can withstand 9600GT or 9800GT for long. And you better get a proper PSU even for these cards. HD4770 is around 7k I think and you do need a better PSU to run HD4770.

You yourself bought the HD4770 right? What's the price which you paid for this card? And also please tell me what would be the price of a decent 500+watt psu?

i paid 7.2k but GTS250 for same price is much better deal.

check CM extremepower 500W or corsair VX450W or Antec Earthwatt 500W or Glacialpower 650AA. all are inside 4.5k, CM one being cheapest at 2.5k

@OP

Get a GTS250 1GB and a CM 600W. But still a 80-100fps at latest games is insane.;-) above 30 is meant to be playable and smooth.
If you are a FPS Counting fella, then go get a GTX285 or HD4890....:-D

Update :

Dude, u have a 22" Monitor. So getting a GTS250 even wont help u. So better get atleast HD4870(around 13k for 1GB) or a GTX260 SP216(around 11k for 896MB).

desiibond, you mean to say that GTS250 is priced around 7.5k?? :O where dude? I got the prices today itself, it's 8200+tax for the 512mb and 9200_tax for the 1bg version.
And yeah, you're right about the psu, cooler master being the most VFM here, is my first choice now.

So if I see it the way you tell me, I should get a GTS250 for around rs7500 and psu for rs2500. Total damage = Rs.10,000.
I will think on it, coz so much money is hard to come by. :)

Any other suggestions with the ATI 4850? Like what would be the price difference between GTS250 and ATI 4850? And the performance?

---------------

rajkumar_pb, thanks for the suggestion pal. I am not a FPS freak. I mentioned the fps criteria just because it's something which people benchmark the graphics card on. If I get around 50fps with medium details and textures on 1440*900 resolutions for around rs5000 then I will be more then happy. But this doesn't turn out to be the case here. 9600GT can run on my current psu, but it would give me around 30-40 fps with medium details, AA set to OFF and resolution pulled down to 1440*900 or may be even 1280*800. Add to it, it's not future proof.

The next alternate for me is to get a better graphics card and a better psu, which totals to rs 10,000 at least.

Now I am in a great confusion.

On the other hand, my xbox 360 has started showing the RRoD error. :(

Btw, I think the gts250 will give very good fps+details on the 22" monitor.

Look at there

Palit GTS 250 512 MB DDR3 7375
Palit GTS 250 1 GB DDR3 8350

You can get a mere +/- 500 with that price. Not much like you said.

BTW The HD4850 will be your next option,. say if you don't get GTS250 @ 7.5k, then a Powercolor 4850 512MB DDR3 @ 6.6K (don't know about the RMA but it's the best VFM in it's class) looks like a good deal. But do try to get GTS250, and you wont regret for the purchase.

Why dont you try purchase from itwares. It costs you only 7375+50 only. If you're in Mumbai, you may pick up by person.

BTW Why i prefer GTS250 over HD4850 is, the latter is power hungry, so runs hot, more power consumption, noisy and all in above its drivers very not upto the mark.

The former is having a good driver support, have PhysX, and less power hogger than it.
