I am going to buy a new DVD Writer tomorrow. WHich model should I take?

I have shortlisted 2 models:
Samsung S203B
Samsung S223(22x dvd writer)

Which one is better and if in your opinion there is something better than these, please do tell me, it might be of great help for me.

Another question, if I want to install a SATA DVDRW, are the steps necessary from installing an IDE drive?

Bond, Desi Bond!
lol 22x.

The DVD media is soo low in quality these days that even writing at 16x on a 18x DVDR results in lot of hash errors.

18x writer is more than enough.

i think you should opt for the samsung SH-S223F as it is perfect blend of great features and low price. other DVD-RW (like SONY,etc) are costler than the samsung with same parformance characteristics. Also the tray bulid quality of Samsung drives are better than Sony (as i've used the both DVD-RW, i find Samsung is a better Choice), Also SATA are going more poular these days and all new motherboards have 4-6 sata ports and only 1-2 PATA ports, also techonolgy-wise SATA is better then PATA, Rest is up to you which one do you prefer....

you can see the details at *www.samsung.com/in/consumer/detail...=dvdwriters&model_cd=SH-S223F/IDBH&fullspec=F

High without substance...
over the years of burning cd's and dvd's i have found out that burnining them at the fullest speeds has given many errors or has had shorter life. this might be bad luck but i do not take chances i always chose the one before the maximum.

now as for the 22X write speed the dvd media should support that high speed writing and i have not seen any dvd's supporting that speeds.

correct me if i was wrong.

I couldn't get that drive, so I bought a Samsung S202J 20x IDE Drive.
