Need help in upgrading my Mother-board ??

Connor_RTS-FPS

Right off the assembly line
My present Configuration

Processor = Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66 Ghz

Mother Board= Intel DG41WV
link: Intel® Desktop Board DG41WV - Overview

Ram= 4 GB DDR 3 1066 Mhz

Graphic card= nVidia 9400 GT, 1 GB

OS= Win XP SP-2 [I am going to upgrade it to Win 7 Ultimate]

HDD= 500 GB

PSU=Intex 450 Watt [so this will mean I need a better if I read the whole thread correctly]

Now my questions are:

Can I attach a 1 TB HDD to my present Mother-Board [MoBo] ??

And I want a new MoBo which can support more RAM memory [my presents support till 4 GB only]
So far I was able to find only one by Asus P5G41T-M LX
source link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5G41T-M LX
But there its written that it is DirectX10 support what does it exactly mean like does it do something with Win 7 which has DirectX11

Suggest me a MoBo which is capable of having 8GB RAM DDR3 more than 1 HDD's and some new era Graphic card any [graphic card better than mine but nVidia only plz]

If you need any other info plz ask...

And ya I bought this PC on November 2009 and I have upgraded my MoBo approx 7 Months ago...

Thanking you in Advance :smile:

Which power supply do you have? *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/power-sup...89-power-supply-blacklist-thread-newbies.html

At the moment, AMD graphic cards are better than nVidia at most price points. Except two. So, there is no point of "nvidia only plzzz" unless you want to waste money. *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/graphic-cards/151004-best-graphic-cards-money-india.html

For your kind information, these days AMD "Fusion" Processors have built-in DirectX 11 graphics faster than the dedicated "nVidia" 9400 GT you have. lol.

All you need is a new power supply (Corsair CX430v2 2.5k at the least) and a graphic card. AMD HD 5670 GDDR5 for 4.2k qualifies as the minimum. HD 5670 should be 6 times faster than 9400 GT. lol. :p But I recommend HD 6770 for 7.5k.

Regarding motherboard, there is a G41 chipset motherboard from Gigabyte which has DDR3 slots. Get that. Two sticks of 4 GB DDR3 RAM cost 2.5k only. DDR2 is expensive.

This one: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G41M-Combo (rev. 1.3)

I tend to avoid recommending Asus these days because of their support.

--->ico thanks for all the support..:grin:
and I agree that Asus is not providing good service in India even-though they got great products :|

Still some of my small ques haven't been answered:

1) can I attach one more 1TB HDD [currently having 500 GB HDD] in my current MoBo..

2) The Asus MoBo

what does DirectX10 means in here ??
plz explain

^^ as long you have free sata port & sata power connectors, this is possible.

G41 comes with Intel X4500 built-in graphics which supports DX10.0.

Intel graphics are crap so no point if it is directx 10,11.... what so ever Since Op will add discrete card any way.
Connor_RTS-FPS just add a good PSU such as SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W @ 4.6K
or corsair gs 600 @ 4k
and a good gpu preferably of 6870 series such as MSI HD 6850 Cyclone OC @ 9.7K 4gb of ram is more than enough for current situation and 32bit OS can use upto 3.25Gb of ram.
