Hi all,
My sister is a huge movie buff and buys as many movies as she can whenever she can. Now a days she buys DVD movies but previously she used to buy VCDS and theres quite a few now, (Only 78 to be precise ..) Id like to know if it is possible to back her collection on to DVDs? Ive tried searching this forum but I cant find any topics . For example if I enter dvd or vcd or conversion every search comes back with

"Sorry, no topics found " or something similair.

I tried tutorials on videohelp but each case uses something which is not freeware :( .

Could anyone tell me in laymans terms how to convert all these vcds -> dvds and if it possible to do so with freeware?

Another question I had was recently I had to go to Coimbatore for business. I bought this new Nokia 6681 and Im pretty happy with it and all, but I would like to expand the memory to 512 MB. SOmeone told me it would become much faster on doing so. So I walk into a "Nokia Authorised Outlet" (thats what the salesman said they were ) and he says they have 2 kinds of memory chips.

1. NCP 512 MB - Rs 850
2. Nokia 512 MB - Rs 3400 ?!?!?

Im just curious of the price differences between these two? I understand that NCP might be cheaply produced and probably made in some back room of a sweatshop, but if I use this is there any ill effects that might happen to my phone??? Are there any other safe alternatives other than the 512 mb by Nokia?

Thanks in advance.

most of original movie has copy protection enabled, so you might not able to save on hard disk. for that you need software like alcohol 120% which are not freeware.
disable auto CD run and press "shift" key when cd is inserted, so copy protection does not get load into memory. this will increase your chances to copy movies on harddisk.
once the movies are on hard disk. your can directly write on dvd but that dvd will play only on computer. use trail version software for dvd making from ulead, cyberlink, pinnacle etc. to write that movie on dvd. so that it can play on stand alone dvd player.
dvd capacity is 4.37 G.B so arrange the movies according.

Since you're only trying to backup your original movies, you're in the legal clear. Just don't try distributing them.

Unfortunately I cant use an trial software since Im looking for a long term solution (that is be able to do this on my system beyond the trial period time). Someone recommended Nero Ultra to me so Im taking a look at it and Ill post back If i have found something useful there :) .

Try the software AutoGk or gordion knot.
AutoGk is easy enough to understand so you will not face any problems.
search on sourceforge for the software.

ps: the software is free. open source infact.

That was only for the method. For most programs that are shareware, you almost always have freeware/open source equivalents. Once you know the method, you can go around looking for programs you need.

Hi all,
After all the searching and trying Ive finally come tot he conlusion that definitely converting vcds tro dvds isnt worth the effort at all. The time its taking me to convert few movies and then write it to a dvd is definitely not worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for all your help
