I have a standalone laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with integrated wi-fi.

I have a standalone desktop running Windows XP Pro 32-bit with a D-Link Wireless N 150 USB Adapter.

Both the PC's have a printer each connected to both of them.

Also, I have a MTNL ADSL wireless router for internet. Laptop connects to it through wireless, desktop through ethernet.

I want to connect both the PC's for file transfer, printer sharing.

I tried using Google and found some tips. But the both still don't show in each others "Available wireless connections".

Kindly help.

Have u completed all steps to put them in the same Workgroup?

Yes, I have already done the steps as mentioned here:
Networking home computers running different versions of Windows

If there is a better guide for laymen/novice, please point me towards it.
Thanks.

if your adsl router has more than 1 ethernet port connect laptop to other ethernet port & then check if desktop & PC detects each other.also as far as i remember your user account on both windows 7 & xp must have a password for this to work & avoid many issues.
