Need help about vsync!!

When playing game like Blur, NFS Hot pursuit and Battlefield Bad Company 2. I find the frame-rates were more smooth when played with vsync on, but at the moment, I turn off the vsync screen tearing occurs. Is this normal??

Configuration in my siggy. Btw. I have a 60Hz monitor

that's because your FPS is different from your monitor refresh rate, and incomplete rendering of frame when the monitor refreshes is the cause of this problem. What FPS do you get while playing?

Resolution- FulHD
AA-4X


Vsync on- 60FPS
vsync off-90-100

Game-play were more smooth with vsync on.

Well, if you can go technical, i'l post a link here, go read it, and have your clue. If you can't , then simply, turn VSync ON IF your FPS is ABOVE your Refresh rate. Make it a habit. Because you can't see the extra 40 FPS above 60 if your monitor refreshes at 60Hz.

That's probably why it is recommended to have 120Hz monitor if you're gonna have a high-end gaming system.

Ahh my crt monitor was far better than 60 HZ lcd monitor

This proves that even without VSYNC on 120Hz monitor and FPS around 120 will not stop tearing to occur. I would recommend you read about it in the link i posted in my last post, the WIKI link posted by Gaurav is less informatory. Read it and come back

Tearing can be stopped and framerate won't be halved if triple-buffering is enabled alongwith VSync.

vsync locks the fps in games and there is no diffrance in IQ,(60 vs 90fps or even more) it normaly locks to 60fps. It's a test for ur gpu power While vsync is on. If ur gpu were inable to provide 60fps in certain areas, it will drop automaticaly to 50 or even lower fps. But for smooth gameplay i also like to enable vsync in certain games.
