1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:- Basic usage:- MS office, a lot of movies, loads of web surfing+downloading, music. No gaming at all. maybe angry birds or similar games at the most
An HTPC in other words
2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: Budget is actually 25-30k(if absolutely necessary). Ideally it will be 28k. Please try to suggest within 28k.
3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:- Never.since the person is not a tech geek at all.
4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7. windows 8 when it comes out.
5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500 gb
6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Yes a monitor is needed. 19 inch will be fine.
7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Speakers
8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Within a few days
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will do it myself
10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Kolkata. Will buy locally. Not open to online purchase.
11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: This pc will have to run for 4-5 years atleast. The person's dad is very reluctant to upgrade. Usage will remain same(i.e., watching movies+ web surfing). So with that in mind please suggest a PC which can handle the tasks mentioned for a good 5 years or so.
I suggested this config:-
Proccy:- Pentium g620....................3.5k
Mobo:- gigabyte ga-h61m-d2h.........3.5k
RAM:- corsair 4 gb ram.................1.2k
HDD:- seagate 500gb...................4k
PSU:- corsair cx 430 v2................2.3k
Monitor:- dell in2030m......................6.5k
UPS:- apc back ups rs 600...........2k
DVD drive:-lite-on/asus dvd drive.......1k
KB+Mouse:-logitech mk200................0.6k
Cabinet:- coolermaster elite 310......1.8k
Total:- 26.4k
Now I have a few nagging doubts with this config:-
1.) Is the processor good enough or should I suggest an i3? This won't be upgraded in about 4 years and the g620 is at the bottom of the line processor. The usage is not demanding but still it will not be good if the processor becomes sluggish after an year.
2.) Is there any other h61 based reliable motherboard apart from this one in the 3.5k range? I have had bad experience with gigabyte mobos in the past(lan chip stopped working on 3 mobos). I know about the ASUS P8H61-M LX,but kinda hesitant to buy asus because of rashi peripherals(though I heard they have improved now.) Any other options?
3.) Should I ask him to opt for a cheaper cabinet to get a better processor?
4.) The HD2000 is enough for movies right? 1080p? No gaming at all. just movies/videos.
Any other rigs? Please suggest. Thanks![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
