Allllright !
Hi guys. My 7 year old PC is no longer functional (hard disk dead, still need to verify functionality of mobo and processor)

Config of old PC (Will be reusing some):

Motherboard : Intel DG31PR

Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

Hard Disk : [strike]Seagate 250 GB Hard Disk [/strike] (Now dead)

Monitor : Samsung 17" Syncmaster732MW (1440*900p VGA)

Power Supply : [strike]IBall stock[/strike] (Could be the reason behind hard disk damage, so replacing)

Optical Drive : DVD : Samsung optical Drive

RAM : [strike]Transcend 2GB DDR2 RAM[/strike] (Wont be compatible with new mobo, so cant reuse)

Keyboard and Mouse : Logitech Black (PS2), Logitech Wireless Keyboard with 2.4Ghz Unifying Receiver

Will fix this old system and keep it as a secondary system.

Components that I will be reusing:

Monitor: Samsung 17" Syncmaster732MW (1440*900p VGA)

Cabinet : Iball Entizer

Optical Drive : DVD : Samsung optical drive

Components I need:

Processor

Motherboard (VGA port necessary, 2 USB 3.0 ports necessary)

Hard Disk

Power Supply

RAM

Graphics Card

Mouse (Any basic wireless one that works with Logitech 2.4 GHz Unifying Receiver)

Questionnaire answered:

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run?

Ans: I am studying ECE engineering so will be running related applications. I wont be gaming.
Here is the list of the applications:

Heavy Processing -> Eclipse (and Eclipse based IDEs), MATLAB (similar) and other Integrated Development Environments.
Moderate Processing -> Verilog Tools(Cadence, Xilinx), Circuit Simulation and PCB Design s/w.
Basic tasks -> Browsing, some video encoding, MS Office, Latex etc.

Reason I need a GPU even if I'm not gaming: I will running a lot Computer Vision code on the system. So I want to utilize the power of parallel computing on the GPU. CV will be done on OpenCV and Matlab.

OpenCV has support for CUDA only, please recommend a GPU with high number of CUDA cores and Linux driver support.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Ans: 25k +3k max

3. Planning to overclock?

Ans: Haven't done it before, didn't have to. Will do if the gain is worth it.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?

Ans: Win7/8 dual boot with Ubuntu

5. How much hard drive space is needed?

Ans: 500Gb

6. Do you want to buy a monitor?

Ans: No. Already have Samsung 17" (1440*900p VGA)

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?

Ans: As mentioned above.

Monitor: Samsung 17" Syncmaster732MW (1440*900p VGA)

Cabinet : Iball Entizer

Optical Drive : DVD : Samsung optical drive

8. When are you planning to buy the system?

Ans: Within 4-5 days

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

Ans: Will be done by an assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?

Ans: Bangalore, will try to buy locally since it is convenient. Either from Golcha IT, SP Road or Computer Warehouse, MG Road. If significantly cheaper then I will buy from Flipkart.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?

Ans:

After doing some research and reading other threads to squeeze everything in budget I will have to go for a :
Budget CPU - AMD FX6300 or Intel i3-4130. (7k)
Decent mobo for (5k)
Hard disk - WD Blue 500Gb (3-3.5k)
RAM - Corsair/G-skill 4Gb DDR3 (3-3.5k)
PSU Corsair/Antec 450-550W (3k)

Total about 22k.. Will be left with about 3-6k for GPU.

PS: [strike]TDF[/strike] DF community has helped me in innumerable ways. I would like to thank everyone for being so helpful and sharing :)

Thanks for the reply buddy.

As I mentioned I need a GPU with CUDA support. Only Nvidia cards have CUDA support.
Specifically these cards:

Thanks. I think I will go ahead with the RAM, HDD and GPU you suggested
But my budget is low, can't afford to extend more than 28k.

get this motherboard at Rs. 4450
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Motherboard - Gigabyte : Flipkart.com

or better opt for this one :
ASUS M5A97 Motherboard - ASUS : Flipkart.com

Motherboard @ 4300 / 6550 [ Source : Local stores ]
FX 8320 @ 10400
2x 4GB Ram EVM 1333 Mhz @ 5300 [ you can always OC it to 1600 Mhz easily ]
500GB HDD WD Blue @ 3400
Corsair VS 450 @ 2250

all comes to 25650 without gfx card and the first motherboard. You can save on some cost if you opt for FX 6300 cpu @ 7.5k [ price incresed a lot ]. With around ~5.2k left get a GeForce GT 730 64-bit GDDR5 gfx card.

Alright, thanks. The GT640 GDDR5 1GB is available at Amazon for 5.3 and at a similar price on Flipkart too. Since I won't be leveraging the entire 2GB on the Zotac (coz single monitor setup [MENTION=2221]144[/MENTION]0*900p, may upgrade 1080p in 2016). Will there be a huge difference in performance if I settle for a 1GB card?

Thanks for your views topgear.
I would loved to add a 8320 but not my cash, parents sponsoring so, you know..

I don't want to start another AMD vs Intel thing but now I am not able to choose b/w i3 4130 and FX6300. My main question:

1. If select FX6300 ( 7.2- 7.5k) and go for a mobo with limited or no OC capabilities will I missing out significantly on FX6300's performance? Will a 450W PSU support OC?

2. i3 4130 (6.8-7.3) is very recent and has a lower TDP. Both are almost neck to neck in performance but I am not sure which of these will have a significant performance rise in my case.
As most of the applications I am running are multi threaded will 6300 fare better?

3. About GT640 vs GT730, both same no. of CUDA cores but,

730 is cheaper and has lower TDP, 640 GDDR5 faster and costs approx 1-1.5k more. More confusion..

Any answers?
[MENTION=15026]topgear[/MENTION] , buddy any suggestions?

There is another thing I forgot to mention in the Questionnaire.
I will also be using the PC as a Oscilloscope, using the PC's audio microphone in. So I will be needing a mobo with good ADC sampling rate. After checking the specs of many motherboards, manufacturers don't mention the sampling rate. Any pointers on that? Do I assume all mobo in 5-6k range have similar ADC?

HyperXFury 4GB - 3k
Antec VP 450p - 2.5k
WD Blue 1TB - 3.5k
GTX 750 - 8k

locally all should come under the budget of wait for some awesome offers as its festive season and offers will be coming soon.

I can't say about any sound stuff, but if on board sound cards don't satisfy your needs, you can buy a decent one for around 1.5k.

I am not sure I will be utilizing the full power of the GTX GPU, will have skimp on to something cheaper.

Finally he gave a cash discount of 1% so about 200 bucks reduced there.
He didn't have WD Blue 1TB, so I thought I will buy it elsewhere. He had only Seagate HDDs and WD Green for 3.5k.

So I went to Golcha Computers, SP Road, that shopkeeper is like
"WD Blue kabka bandh ho gaya, abhi stock hi nahi aata."
("WD has discontinued Blue series, no restock.")

He also had only WD Green, Black and Seagate HDDs.

So I ended up buying Seagate 1TB ST1000DM003 7200rpm for 3.6k.
I know, a bad choice, but the assembler was coming the next day, I had to buy something.

A negative response about Golcha I must mention here.
I ask him to get the HDD and that fellow is like "stock nahi hai, 10-15min lagega"
20 min later a 10year old slum kid comes up running with a Hard disk in his hand, without a hard box, like its some piece of bread.
Shopkeeper "Leejiya aapka hard disk aa gaya"
He gives it to me like this:

*i.imgur.com/4TDx0ya.jpg

Dafuq? That kid could have dropped it somewhere and lied about it, and AFAIK HDDs are not supposed to be exposed to sunlight in the first place. Given Seagate's RMA policy, if it was a DoA piece I wouldn't have got anything.

After I argued with the shopkeeper he goes in and gets me this:

*i.imgur.com/xko88mR.jpg

Anyways everything is assembled now and the HDD works fine for now.

Another horror occurred when the assembler arrived.
First of all this about 30+ aged guy arrives late and says he will finish the job quickly 'coz he needs to be somwhere.
He rips apart all the packaging. Not even bothered to be careful when placing the CPU in the socket.
Doesn't give a sh!t about ESD and mishandled the RAM even when I pointed out once. :-x
Dumba$$ even touches the gold colored pins of the GPU when placing the slot.
After he screws the motherboard he realizes he hasn't removed the removable metal slot in the cabinet for the GPU display connections.
He tries to rip it apart there only. He almost knocked off a capacitor from the motherboard in the process. WTF!

Anyways, everything worked somehow on the first shot. I had to give him 300 bucks for this shitty job!
Damn, if this was so simple I could have done it myself. :-(

Finally this is how it looks.

And I also bought HDD like that, has no problems. Just it was in the shop already.
And for the assembling, you could have done it watching YouTube. Just the CPU part is tricky AFAIK.
