Hi Guys,

I have been saving for over an year and now my current desktop is starting to show age as it has been with me for last 5 years and I abused it a lot. (i3 6100, GTX 960 etc.)

Looking to build a new build for gaming and moving from budget build to somewhat middle tier/decent setup.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.' Vague answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work.)
Ans: I play AAA titles. Majorly FPS only like Halo MCC, Doom/Doom Eternal/ Emulators, Also will be running few VMs as per my work.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then please mention.
Ans: 80k. Can extend to 90k.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 10

5. How much hard drive / solid-state drive space is needed?
Ans: I already have 500GB WD SSD. Want to buy 1 TB NVME SSD.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention the screen size and resolution you prefer. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, then do mention the screen size and resolution of the monitor you have.
Ans: Already have one. LG 28' 1080p with 144 Refresh rate.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy? i.e. which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: I have corsair 550 PSU and 144 Hz monitor so don't wanna buy. Espcially PSU if it can work since i bought it few months back only.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:Q1 2021

9. Have you ever built a desktop before? Or, will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Yes. Have decent experience as this build will be my 6th build in 2 decades. I like to hang on to stuff.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhi. Will prefer to buy locally. But if cannot find locally will buy online but from trusted on such as MDComputers. etc.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: A thank you in advance. Appreciated your response.

Following is what I have decided for now, hoping prices will either stay still or don't change much.

CPU: i5 10400 - 15500
MB: ASRock B460M-HDV Motherboard - 7500
HyperX Fury 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL16 DIMM 1Rx8 Black XMP Desktop Memory (HX426C16FB3/8) - 2800*2 = 5600
Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD - CT1000P1SSD8 - 8300
RTX 3060/3050TI - 30000 - When it becomes available. Until then will game on my GTX 960.
Cabinet: MSI MAG Forge 100M - 5200

Kindly share your suggestions.

Will this be good enough for 1080p 144 for next 5 years?

I do not play on maxed out graphics as gameplay is more important for me. So dialing the graphics settings to Medium/High is no issue for me.

@SaiyanGoku , bro. Please share your suggestions if the build can be improved.

For future proofing ryzen is better.

Both 80k and 90k configs are suggested here.
You might need to switch the power supply for a rtx 3000 gpu.
And you can get a newer b550 based mobo now.

Thank you. Yes I do plan to buy 3060/3050TI once they are released and actually have stock. Till then I will use 960.

Thank you aby to you too. However I have always gone for Intel and considering 3600 is right now overpriced I think it's not worth it.

I want to go CPU which will have integrated graphics as well just in case I ever need to use it.

Also I have heard that 10400 is almost as good as 3600. Will the build with 10400 won't be worth it?

I play at 1080p so I know there will be some bottleneck but that is expected.

Guys,

Can you please suggest an AMD CPU based rig? Thinking of going AMD this time as it will allow me to upgrade CPU down the line in 3-4 years gaining some decent performance upgrade without whole rig update.

Thinking of 3600 + B550 based MB.

Kindly share your opinions and rig suggestions. @SaiyanGoku

Vicky

This is the end of the road for AM4 platform. Next year there will be a new socket, so no upgrading. 4 gen of CPU in one socket is good, although most mobos got support for just 3 gen of CPUs.

R5 3600 is still overpriced.

IMO get this:

CPU - Intel i5 10400 - 15.5k

Mobo - MSI B460M Pro VDH WiFi - 10k

RAM - 2x8GB DDR4 2666MHz - 4.6k

GPU - RTX 3060 - 30k ?? (Launch expected in Jan '21)

M.2 SSD - Kingston A2000 1TB - 9.5k (8k on sales)

HDD - None (3.3k for 1TB 7200RPM)

PSU - Corsair CX650 650W 80+ bronze - 5.5k (if yours is 550W bronze, use it)

Cabinet - Deepcool Mattrexx 55 Mesh ADD RGB 4F - 5.5k

Monitor - Yours

Total - 80.6k

If you find Zotac RTX 3060Ti Twin Fan under 40k, can grab that as well. Some sellers did sell its non-OC model for 37k. Register within 30 days for 3 years extra warranty for Zotac (total 5).

Ryzen config if you find CPU at decent prices:
CPU - AMD R5 3600/X/XT - 18-20k
Mobo - Gigabyte B550M DS3H - 9.2k (sufficient, has 2x M.2 slots)
RAM - 2x8GB DDR4 3600MHz CL18 - 6.5k

Have seen some sellers selling R5 3600XT for 19k, good enough, although no appreciable performance improvement over R5 3600 but has a better stock cooler.

Check primeabgb, mdcomputers, theitdepot, vedant computers, onlyssd (online stores as well) for PC parts at a good price, sometimes even amazon. Definitely go to Nehru Place.

Thank you.

I was thinking of getting R5 3600 for now with B550 MB. That way I can upgrade to R5 5600X down the line in 2-3 years which should give a good performance upgrade.

Will that be a good plan? How much performance gain can I expect if I switch to 5600X 3 years later or just get 5600X right now instead of 3600?

Honestly, I don't think you will upgrade to 5600X after 3 years. Very rarely someone ever upgrades the CPU. An upgrade to something like 5900X (12 cores) is what will make sense after 3 years.

3600 to 5600X is a 20% difference in single-threaded performance.

Bro, I'm going for mid rig setup and 5900X is literally out of my budget. Let's see once RTX 3060 is released in Jan then I will upgrade.

I know that. I'm just pointing out what an actual upgrade is from 3600 if you were to upgrade after 2-3 years.

In a way you can upgrade to a used 5800X or something after few years for a decent bump, if you want. New ones might not be sold anymore after 2-3 years.
