1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
- Both systems are for gaming at ultra primarily. The 1.5L should be viable for some video editing/streaming if the fancy strikes.
- Games: upcoming installments later this year and next year like Dragon Age, Assassin Creed, Witcher, Far Cry, Batman, Tomb Raider and possibly other AAA games.
- Some movies and TV Shows so colors and viewing angles should be good on monitor.
2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Need two system configurations at 75k and 1.5L.
- 75k budget is absolute max, cannot extend at all. In fact if you can keep it below 70k, it would be appreciated.
- 1.5L I think is pretty generous and doesn't need extension, but if you feel there will be a huge performance boost in extending, I'm all ears.
3. Planning to overclock?
I don't know how or the risks involved. I can keep the option open if you think I should but assume it's low priority.
4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Win 8.1 for both systems.
5. How much hard drive space is needed?
- 75k: 1TB
- 1.5L: 1TB at least. Not fussed about SSD unless I can fit at least 256GB or more within my budget without compromising on gaming capability.
6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
It should support hooking up gaming consoles to it as well. What will happen to the sound? Can I connect them separately to the speakers?
- 75k budget: 21-22 inch 1080p IPS monitor.
- 1.5L budget: at least 24 inch 1080p or higher res IPS monitor. If within budget, better to have one 1440p+ monitor or two 1080p monitors?
7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Don't need mouse and keyboard.
8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Within the month if possible. If much better hardware will be released within next few months, I can consider waiting.
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Never, so would be done by assembler most likely but I'm willing to try if it's low risk.
10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Bangalore. I prefer to buy online as I don't have the time, patience or the ability to bargain locally in places like SP road (which is too far from my place anyway).
11. Anything else which you would like to say?
- I don't have a preference for AMD or Intel, whatever works best within budget.
- Please mention if I need extra cooling for either system.
- I need UPS as power cuts are very frequent and I'd like to shutdown the system safely when it happens. My house also has partial UPS backup so please just suggest a basic one for better protection.
- Suggest a budget 2.1 speakers for both systems. I'm not an audiophile, so just one with decent bass and no distortion. For gaming I'll use headset, this will only be for playing some music or watching movies. Should also be compatible with my gaming consoles for when I hook them up to my monitor.
For 75k budget:
- GTX 970 for graphics card?
- At least 4GB RAM.
For 1.5L budget:
- SLI/Crossfire two graphics card or single high end graphics card? GTX 980 or something else?
- 8GB RAM. Might expand in in year or two if really needed, so 1x8 or 2x4?
How future proof would both systems be? I'll not upgrade or replace until games fall below medium setting, so based on that how many years?
Please help me in building a good PC. Thanks.
