Need 2 gaming configurations @ 70k and 1.5L

Innara

Broken In
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')

- Both systems are for gaming at ultra primarily. The 1.5L should be viable for some video editing/streaming if the fancy strikes.
- Games: upcoming installments later this year and next year like Dragon Age, Assassin Creed, Witcher, Far Cry, Batman, Tomb Raider and possibly other AAA games.
- Some movies and TV Shows so colors and viewing angles should be good on monitor.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Need two system configurations at 75k and 1.5L.
- 75k budget is absolute max, cannot extend at all. In fact if you can keep it below 70k, it would be appreciated.
- 1.5L I think is pretty generous and doesn't need extension, but if you feel there will be a huge performance boost in extending, I'm all ears.

3. Planning to overclock?

I don't know how or the risks involved. I can keep the option open if you think I should but assume it's low priority.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?

Win 8.1 for both systems.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?

- 75k: 1TB
- 1.5L: 1TB at least. Not fussed about SSD unless I can fit at least 256GB or more within my budget without compromising on gaming capability.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.

It should support hooking up gaming consoles to it as well. What will happen to the sound? Can I connect them separately to the speakers?
- 75k budget: 21-22 inch 1080p IPS monitor.
- 1.5L budget: at least 24 inch 1080p or higher res IPS monitor. If within budget, better to have one 1440p+ monitor or two 1080p monitors?

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?

Don't need mouse and keyboard.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?

Within the month if possible. If much better hardware will be released within next few months, I can consider waiting.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

Never, so would be done by assembler most likely but I'm willing to try if it's low risk.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?

Bangalore. I prefer to buy online as I don't have the time, patience or the ability to bargain locally in places like SP road (which is too far from my place anyway).

11. Anything else which you would like to say?

- I don't have a preference for AMD or Intel, whatever works best within budget.
- Please mention if I need extra cooling for either system.
- I need UPS as power cuts are very frequent and I'd like to shutdown the system safely when it happens. My house also has partial UPS backup so please just suggest a basic one for better protection.
- Suggest a budget 2.1 speakers for both systems. I'm not an audiophile, so just one with decent bass and no distortion. For gaming I'll use headset, this will only be for playing some music or watching movies. Should also be compatible with my gaming consoles for when I hook them up to my monitor.

For 75k budget:
- GTX 970 for graphics card?
- At least 4GB RAM.

For 1.5L budget:
- SLI/Crossfire two graphics card or single high end graphics card? GTX 980 or something else?
- 8GB RAM. Might expand in in year or two if really needed, so 1x8 or 2x4?

How future proof would both systems be? I'll not upgrade or replace until games fall below medium setting, so based on that how many years?

Please help me in building a good PC. Thanks. :)

I think 970 6 GB is more than enough!
Its better to get i7 4770k for 1.5 L config.

+1 to what amjath has suggested for the 75k rig. The only change I'd make there is getting a Gigabyte B85 motherboard instead of an H87 and putting that difference money onto another 4GB RAM.

Will post a slightly different 1.5L config later. (with an i7-4790k, GTX 970 SLI etc)

Thanks! Sorry I've a lot of questions:
- Someone was suggesting in graphics card forum that Asus is not reliable for these new maxwell cards and lot of DOA have been reported.
- What do you think of ordering the graphics card from US? My aunt and uncle will be travelling to India in a month or two and I can ask them to carry it with them. I know that only evga provides warranty in case of RMA. What will be the custom and import duties? Both 970 and 980 are so much cheaper there so is it worth it to spend so much more in India for a local warranty?
- Please do suggest me that i7 and SLI build for 1.5L if it will perform better.
- Can you suggest a UPS for both configs, power cut is a big problem in my area.
- 42k for a monitor in 1.5L worth it? Seems like a lot...can some of it be better spent on an SLI config or more powerful processor?

AFAIK and checked newegg and all, ASUS cards has no DOA. DOA can be replaced from where you buy so dont worry. If you are more concerned get a Zotac card.

As you summed up everything, it comes down to warranty. Once I called ASUS service card asking them "Will I get warranty/RMA for the card which bought from US" He asked me for the serial number for the card to check. So I ask you to do the same before buying. Call the Service center and get the info and please do update here. BTW No customs and duties will be posed by it is not boxed and say they were using the product in US and hold a bill.

IMO for your purpose of gaming and little video editing, i5 4690k will suffice your need.
AnandTech | Bench - CPU
From the above comparison, there is absolutely negligible difference in gaming. I have suggested a overclockable CPU just in case if you think its needed. People [Noob] will say 1.5L and no i7  kya re, but they dont know there are actually 4 generaton released for i7, i5 and i3.

I was thinking about game support for sli so avoided it. After bit of a research 970 sli is way outperform 980 so get a 970 sli.

I'm weak in UPS area, so someone else will come fo rthe rescue.

ASUS PB278Q PLS LED WQHD is the best 1440p monitor, I agree it pricey here. So its better to get a monitor from US than getting a graphic card. After seeing 1440p gaming performace for 980 i was wrong, get a 970 SLI

- Hmm I don't know if I can ask my relatives to carry a monitor from US as they're already shifting their own stuff from US to India. (weight is more than 2.5 times of 2 graphics card) And I'll have to ask them to unpack it and bring it into India as used to avoid customs or not? Is there no cheaper alternative? I don't want to overshoot 1.5L as it's already so much money. And what is this I'm hearing about cheap korean monitors on US forums? Can we ship that to India?
- I can skip on SSD if that will help. Will it matter with gaming performance other than load times? 1 TB HDD only for game/app installs is okay for me in that case. I've external disks for other media/file storage.
- I don't know is RAM has any impact on SLI or running 1440p monitors, so will 8GB be enough for now?
- How many years roughly will both 75k and 1.5L configs last? Assuming not planning major updates until forced to drop below med settings for games.

For 75k rig,

Xeon 1230v3 - 17k
Gigabyte B85 D3H - 5.5k
HyperXFury 4GB - 3k
Zotac GTX 970 Amp! - 30k
Seasonic S12II 620W - 5k
Corsair 300R - 4.5k
WD Blue 1TB H 3.5k
ODD - 1k
AOC I2369VM - 10k

On the Xeon thing I'll be simple, Xeon 1230 v3 = i7 4770k - k -Rs 3000
HyperXFury comes with a 1866MHz stock clock and higher clocks are easily achievable.
Zotac has 5 years warranty as compared to others.
300R is a very good cabinet at this budget, you should get it and if you want looks+features go for NZXT Phantom 510 ~ 6k
AOC I2369VM is a non glossy monitor and is better than Dell S2240L IMO. You can go with either of them.

For 1.5L rig,
I5 4690k - 16.5k
CM Hyper 212X - 3k
MSI Z97 PC Mate - 9k
HyperXFury 2x4GB - 6k
Zotac GTX 970 Amp! x2 - 60k
Corsair TX 750 - 7.5k
NZXT Phantom 530 - 7k
WD Blue 1TB - 3.5k
ODD - 1k
Monitor - same as amjath's - 42k

Phantom 530 is a full tower cabinet and you'll need a lot of space to keep the temps down in a system with SLI + CPU overclocking. Install all fans with a good airflow path too.

What is the reason for the 75k config to have such an expensive processor equivalent to an i7? when even the 1.5l one will be using i5? :-?

Also are 970 graphics card overclocked out of the box?

This question cannot be answered. The growth in the gaming industry is so steep and intense. So can't predict. You can play for ~2 years in ultra and other 2 years in high settings.

well if you have the budget then why not go for it?
the non reference ones like the Zotac Amp! and Asus Strix are bumped up by soem Mhzs.

i just copied amjath's rig with slight modifications. OP can actually opt for a Xeon 1230 v3+Asus B85 if he doesnt want to overclock otherwise i5 4690k is good enough.

Can someone shed light on this please?

you cant predict that. at least i cant. new games are out with newer and better GFX than ever. the new virtual reality "gimmick" may also push the requirements (not sure tho). and maybe 3 years on ultra with 3x970 or i am underestimating 2x 970.

Some personal delays and emergency let to me being unable to buy the parts for my PC around when I posted last month. I'll probably now be able to get around to grabbing the parts and building the PC within the next month. Just wanted to check if nothing has changed with the 1.5l rig suggested in this thread and that this will still be the best to go with? Please confirm.

75k rig is seems ok,can add a cpu cooler like CM hyper tx3 evo ~1.5k, S12ii 620w is a nice PSU,other good options would be Antec TP-550C,Antec HCG-620.

In the 1.5L rig,you have to change the board if you want to go for SLI,MSI Z97 PC MATE doesn't support SLI.
Can look for the likes of MSI Z97 Gaming 3 ~12k.Can change PSU to Seasonic M12II 850.
i5 4690k is a fine processor but still can go for i7 4790k with that budget.

Yeah, even Gaming 3 doesn't support SLI,it also has only one PCIe 3.0 x16 and other one is PCIe 2.0 x16 at x4 speed.
I thought it was having 2 PCIe3.0 x16 slots with x8/x8 mode. For SLI you need at least x8-x8 PCIe lane speed configuration.
You can look for MSI Z97S SLI PLUS ~12.4k or some others.
